To celebrate this event many companies gathered together for an inspiring and fun 30 Day Coloring Challenge Blog Hop. Altenew is the part of this blog hop and I’m thrilled to have my project among another wonderful creations of Design Team to represent Altenew in this blog hop.

I really like working with layered stamps. Especially ones that give realistic results. It’s all you need to get a wow effect and impress a person you made a card for. But this time I decided to go further and add coloring over stamped images.

Markers coloring over stamping. Card and video tutorial by @s_shayevich

I started with stamping images from Layered Lily set onto Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. I stamped a couple of flowers, using Coral BerryFrosty PinkRuby Red inks, and several leaves using Evergreen, Forest GladesFrayed Leaf inks.

Next I colored flowers and leaves using Artist markers. I knew that I will be using markers to color over so when was choosing inks for stamping I took those that match existing markers.

I started coloring from the darkest top layers of my images (Ruby Red for lilies and Evergreen for leaves). I was laying color to cover darkest layers completely and then extending it beyond the borders of these layers.

Then I moved to working on middle layers, using Coral Berry marker for lilies and Forest Glades for leaves. I was pressing my marker on the areas where I already had the darker color to soften it. And then continuing adding color to cover middle layers completely.

Markers coloring over stamping. Card and video tutorial by @s_shayevich

With the same marker I also laid some color onto the bottom lightest layers of my images. Which then I colored using lightest markers. Frosty Pink for lilies and Frayed Leaf for leaves.
I blended out the middle layer color ending up covering bottom layers completely.

As inks that I was using bled a bit from contact with alcohol markers, and the markers matched inks – this bleeding created an interesting effect of kind of painted flower.

This technique can also be applied if you mess up layered stamping by not aligning stamps properly (happens to me very often, even using MISTI). You can hide any boo-boos by coloring over with markers.

Next they all were hand cut using scissors. There is a matching die set, you can use it by all means. I just wanted my stamping to cover whole cut images, with no white border you get using dies.

To finish off my card I created a floral cluster in the middle part of a white card base, shifted to the top a bit. I was adhering flowers and leaves using liquid adhesive and both regular and thin foam adhesive squares (to position different elements on different heights). And added a sentiment from Label Love set stamped with Pure Graphite ink.

Lastly I added dots all over the cluster using fine tips of markers (I think I went a bit overboard with these dots lol) and added several clear droplets.

Whoa! It was a challenge to describe the coloring technique I used for this card. Especially in English.:) Although I’m not sure I’d do a better job in Russian too lol. Some things are easy to describe with just writing. Something you just need to see to understand how it works. Like brain surgery or coloring.

So I dared to film a video for this card

Wow! I am drooling and swooning over these incredible lilies. It just so happens that they are one of my favourite flowers. That is a really interesting technique that you used and I’ll definitely be trying that myself – I think we all have the odd mishap with lining up layered stamps sometimes. Thanks so much for sharing the tip. xx
