Sometimes a fairly simple card design just needs one little detail to make it more interesting. For this Christmas card, I kept the stamped design quite clean and let a dimensional die-cut sentiment become the main feature.
I started by stamping the festive arrangement onto white cardstock using the Papertrey Ink Vase Collection 5 Mini Stamp Set. The ornament-like vase filled with holiday greenery and berries creates most of the design, so there really wasn’t a need to add much more.
For the sentiment, I used the Papertrey Ink All Is Bright Die, cutting it directly from the stamped panel. I then die-cut the same sentiment several more times from red cardstock and stacked the pieces together before placing the original white die-cut on top and fitting everything back into the openings in the background.
Using red cardstock for the dimensional layers adds another small detail to the design. When the raised sentiment is viewed from the side, the red layers are visible around the edges. This helps the sentiment stand out more from the white background while also tying it visually to the red card base.
The same idea would work with many other sentiment dies, especially larger designs made up of several words. You could even recreate the look with alphabet dies if you don’t have a suitable sentiment die, although lining up all those individual letters would take a little more time.
I adhered the finished white panel onto a red card base instead of my usual white one. That extra border of Christmas red helps frame the very simple design and brings a little more festive color to the card.
A few clear embellishments finished everything off without competing with the dimensional sentiment.
