Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevich

Hi everyone and welcome to My Sweet Petunia + Altenew Collaboration Blog Hop!

Two creative teams are showing projects made using supplies from these companies and you probably came from incredible talented Kelly Latevola. If not – you may consider starting from the hop beginning, as there are lots of inspiration and chances to win a prize.Altenew_MySweetPetunia_CollaborationI created a card using Altenew Vintage Flowers stamps set and the set of matching dies.Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichThe design of this card is pretty simple, but I rarely create simple cards (that’s my problem, I tend to overthink my cards). Even though the card front looks extremely simple – I have complicity hidden in its depth. The floral cluster on this card is made as layered chipboard. It consist of four elements of different height fitting together as puzzle pieces. Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichTo create this embellishment first I created the dimensional part of the cluster. Starting with layered die-cut inlay, that I cut out of the Neenah Solar White cardstock panel  using Vintage Flowers dies set.

Next I moved to creating a DIY chipboard. First I die-cut a bunch of shapes from colored cardstock. And then I did some additional die-cutting out of some of these die-cuts, in order them to fit together as puzzle pieces.

Recently I got a new die-cutting machine – Spellbinders Artisan X-plorer, and I’m so in love with it (thanks to my dear friend Yana, who recommended it). This machine is not something new on the market (like not at all). What I like the most about it (and why I got it) – its size. So small and light. I should say that I’m blessed to have a craft room with enough space to fit a pretty big craft desk. Which is still not enough to fit everything I need to have handy (I feel like the biggest desk will never be enough lol).  I still have, love and use my Sizzix Big Shot, but more often I die-cut some small elements, and bringing Big Shot just to cut like a tiny heart or star sometimes can be a pain. I’m really loving to have a mini option for tools I use on regular basis (I have mini versions of scoring board, paper trimmers, MISTI etc.). Artisan is small and light enough just to always have it on my desk. And it’s big enough to cut with cover plate die or use embossing folder.Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichOk, back to the card 🙂 After I had all my pieces ready – I adhered the panel with negative design cut out of it to a yellow card base. And then created dimensional part of the cluster stacking up all die-cuts.

Next I moved to stamping flowers and leaves on the die-cuts I cut out of the panel in the beginning. In order not to have a white border that happens because die-cuts usually a slightly bigger then corresponding stamped images – I skipped stamping the bottom layer and inked my die-cuts instead. I used the same inks for inking that I would use for bottom layers, Altenew Buttercream for flowers and Frayed Leaf for leaves.Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichAnd then I stamped second and third layers. To get the right placement of each layer – I used my mini-MISTI for stamping. First I stamp and die-cut all elements the regular way. And also die-cut all shapes out of a panel (I used some cheapo cardstock for it). I was placing stamped die-cuts in their negative space in the panel and used them as a guide to place the stamps correctly. Then I picked up stamps with MISTI lid, replaced stamped die-cuts with my inked ones and stamped on them.

In this way I was able to get a continuous image of the cluster, without white gaps. And stamped flowers and leaves layers exactly where they’re supposed to be.Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichI made a sentiment using Altenew Label Love stamps set and Altenew Dark Chocolate ink and adhered it to the cluster, onto the flowers. As these two flowers have different height the right side of the sentiment is adhered flat to the right flower, and the left side to the left flower using foam adhesives. I used thin foam adhesives, as the height difference of these flowers is not so big and regular foam squares would be too high for it.

To finish off my card I added several clear droplets.Video-tutorial of how to create a layered chipboard embellishment on a card. Vintage Flowers stamps set by Altenew. Card by @s_shayevichBelow is the video where I show the process of creating this card. My first video with voice over ever! I know that I have a terrible accent, and its one of many-many reasons why I don’t make voice overs (like – “why I sound like a weirdo?” or “how people do voice overs in summer, when there is so much noise from AC, and without AC it’s hotter then in hell?”). But for this technique just a background music wasn’t an option. I don’t even sure, that with my babbling it’s clear what I do there 🙂 The technique itself is not so complicated, it’s just hard to be explained.

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube

Hope you like my card and the technique showed.

Love your card. You gave me a good idea. I think the Misti would be good for pyramid cards. Stamping the multiple layers would be a snap. Getting ready for a four week (mostly business) road trip, so I have no business doing a blog hop!!! But, that shows how much I would love to win a Misti.

Svetlana, love the voiceover. Only tip I’d have for voiceovers (the dog was cute) is maybe slow down a bit. That’s my worst problem when I do voiceovers too. 🙂 You gave great instruction on how to do the layers of the flowers. The “flower math” is a great visual and really helped me understand why you don’t need to double diecut all of the layers. I totally would’ve done that without the tutorial and then kicked myself for not having full flowers for the rest of the card and having to pretty much start over! 🙂 All the little tips through this were sooooo helpful! Can’t wait for the next video and inspiration!
