Hello everyone!
I have to admit – I have a lot of cards that I made and never blogged. Since February’22 when my homeland was attacked by you-know-whom I haven’t been in the best place mentally and physically. I’m desperately making attempts to get back to blogging at least to some extent and share what was due long ago.
By the way, some products that I used are currently on sale, so… 🙂
Today I want to share a couple of slimline Halloween cards featuring some fun products from Papertrey Ink. Almost all products I used came from the Spook-tacular Kit, which is great for many Halloween projects (not just cards).
Among other elements, the kit contains Mason Jar Dies (that can be purchased separately) and they play the main characters on the cards I’m sharing today.
The jars in this set are rather large, so I opted for the slimline size for my cards to fit more elements into them. Also, I believe these designs could be implemented in home decor pieces, not just cards.
WICKED MASON JAR
My first jar is a wicked witch, spooky, but adorable.
After die-cutting the jar out of a white cardstock I ink-blended the Wilted Violet Distress Ink onto it and added water splatters to get the ink blending “bleached”. Next, I applied clear embossing ink onto the top part of the jar and sprinkled it with the Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder. Using a dry brush I removed embossing powder from the areas where I didn’t want it to be (basically forming kind of a hairline of the witch) and heat set it.
The eyeballs and mouth were die-cut out of black cardstock and adhered to the jar. I’ve adhered googly eyes onto the eyeballs, which instantly added adorableness.
The hat, spiderweb, and spiders were die-cut out of black cardstock and also covered with the Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder.
I used the Sprigs Sprays Stamp and Die Sets to create the hair/branches placed into the jar. I die-cut some of them out of black cardstock and covered them with Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder. Some were stamped onto white cardstock with embossing ink, covered with Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder, heat set, and die-cut out using the matching dies. Followed by ink blending the Wilted Violet Distress Ink to color the white edges.
For the background, I used the Weathered Wood Background Stamp Set, which I embossed onto a white slimline panel using seafoam embossing powder. This powder I believe is discontinued already, I don’t even remember its brand (but most likely it’s from Ranger). It’s an off-white coarse powder, which added some texture to the background without overwhelming it.
The sentiment was made using Boo Black Cat Stamp and Die Sets. I also added purple jute twine around the jar finish for more interest.
PUMPKIN SHAKER
For my next card, I’ve created a Mazon Jar Pumpkin Shaker as a main role character.
First thing first – I created the elements of the shaker using dies from the Spook-Tacular Mason Jars Die Set. The largest jar was used as the shaker back part and the largest and medium-sized jars were used to create the top part with the opening. Both elements were die-cut out of white cardstock, ink blended using the Cardved Pumpkin and Rusty Hinge Distress Inks, and splattered with water to add texture and a grunge look.
For the shaker dimensional part, I used black sticky-back foam tape and cut the same shape using 2 jar dies to match the paper piece. The largest jar die was also used to die-cut the acetate piece of the shaker.
I’ve added orange and black sequins into the shaker before gluing all parts together.
So the sequence of shaper parts was the following: paper bottom part (solid jar) + black foam dimensional part (jar with window opening) + sequins + acetate + paper top part ((jar with window opening).
The jar lid was die-cut out of black cardstock. I also added baker’s twine from the kit around its neck. As well as the stem and leaf, which we made using dies from the kit.
The black bat was die-cut using a die from the kit as well.
To assemble the card I adhered a white slimline panel onto a kraft slimline card base. Followed by adhering a stripe of burlap in the middle.
The shaker and bat were popped up onto the card. Several sequins and sentiment label finished it off.
