Hi friends!
December is here. In the Simon Says Stamp world it sounds – DIEcember is here. The new amazing die release came out today and you will see tons of amazing projects from designers using the new products.
I was lucky to receive the new Shimmer Butterfly Die to play with and I made two cards using this wonderful die. It reminded me wood burned design so I decided to go with this idea.

LAYERED WOODEN DESIGN
Since I wanted to made wooden cards first I took my Birch Wood Paper out to use is a the major companion to this die. This paper is thin sheets of real wood and I love the realism of wood when I work with this paper.
Ok so I wanted to get an effect of wood burned design and I achieved it by inking the die with brown ink before placing it onto the paper. After I ran the die through the die cutting machine the inked die blades kind of engraved the design into the wood. I was really satisfied with the result. This die cuts a beautiful butterfly as well as makes a double stitched design around the negative die-cut. So for my first card I use the negative die-cut in a wood panel (the butterfly die-cut I saved for the second card).
Then I inked another piece of Birch Wood Paper using the Teal Cave Ink and die-cut another butterfly out of it. Then I inked another piece of Birch Wood Paper with Galactic Stream Ink and foam mounted the butterfly onto it using thin black adhesive foam squares.
Next I stamped a sentiment onto the panel using Espresso ink, I think it resembles wood burned look as well.
After that I added regular black adhesive foam squares onto the back side of the panel and foam mounted it onto a kraft card base. Placing the teal layered butterfly into the butterfly opening in the panel.
It’s probably a bit hard to see it on the photo but playing with different thickness of the foam adhesive I achieved three layers of wood. The darkest teal layer is placed flat onto the card base, then the butterfly is raised up about 1mm and the panel is raised up a bit more (as I used thicker foam for it).
WOOD BURNED BUTTERFLY
As I mentioned above the butterfly I used onto another card. I couldn’t pass making another card right away as got this quite realistic wood burned butterfly left after making the first card.
The card was very quick and simple to make. I die-cut the panel out of a kraft cardstock using the Wonky Rectangles Die Set and wrapped some jute twine around it. Then I popped up the butterfly using black foam.
The panel in turn was foam mounted onto a kraft card base also using black foam.
Lastly I adhered the sentiment die-cut out of a darker kraft cardstock using the Love Die.

Both of your cards are stunning in a calming way! When I look at them I feel the peace of the backwoods upon my soul. I really do like them!
