Hi friends!
Today I want to share a card made with this month’s Spellbinders Small Die Of The Month – Kaleidoscope Snowflake.
The set is perfect for making cards, decor, and more.
I made two cards using this set. Both are made in quite formal stationary-like style. I like such style in general but especially I like it for holiday cards.
FAUX DRY EMBOSSING
For my first card I was going for a faux dry embossing look. Like the one you would get using an embossing folder. And I achieved it by die cutting several snowflakes out of a dark blue cardstock and then adhering them onto a panel of the same cardstock.
I had some snowflakes sticking out the edges of the panel. Which made the dry embossing effect less realistic. But I was just feeling like that.
Then I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base, popped up a sentiment and added several Snow Crystals.
MASKED BACKGROUND
Dies can not only be used to make die cuts, you can totally use them to make one layer background.
Here I blended Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink onto a white panel. Then I die cut several snowflakes out of a masking paper and adhered them onto the panel.
After that I blended some more of the same ink onto the panel and removed the masks. Revealing toned down snowflake design.
If you work with distress inks you also my have to use water afterwards lol. I will never get tired of seeing how distress ink blending reacts with water. So I added some splatters using my beloved Distress Sprayer, let the water donuts work and move the ink and then blotted it with a paper towel.
Next I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base.
I also made a white die cut of the big snowflake and adhered it onto the card. Popping up the sentiment on top.
Lastly I added several Snow Crystals.
