Hi friedns!
I believe many of you are excited about the newest Simon Says Stamp Celebrate You release. Today I want to share three cards made using the new die from the release – Filigree Butterfly.
This beautiful die embosses a stitched butterfly border and die-cuts a beautiful filigree design inside of it.
SYMPATHY CARD
I decided to start showcasing this die from a card for a sad occasion. I don’t usually do sympathy cards, it’s not a part of my culture. In Ukraine cards are only used for celebratory reasons.
Nevertheless these days I can relate to this card in particular. The last Saturday night (right before the Mother’s Day) after a rough year of fighting with numerous health issues, surgeries and countless days in hospital my Mother-In-Law passed away. I used to make Sympathy cards before and it was hard. Not only because you wish you never need it. But also it was hard for me to “feel” (for lack of better word) such card design wise. Now when my family goes through this hard phase I think I started feeling such cards.
I think the main rule here is simplicity. Simple design which is an easy and quick to make.
I took a dark gray top folding card base and die-cut the die into its front fold. I had the card base opened when was die-cutting, so I didn’t cut the back fold.
Then I die-cut a stitched scalloped border in the bottom part of the front fold (cutting out the bottom off the card base).
Next i white embossed a sentiment using a stamp from the Bouquet Of Thanks Stamp Set.
Lastly I adhered a white panel to the back side of the front fold of the card.
LAYERED BUTTERFLY
My next card is more cheerful. Quite clean and simple.
I started by die-cutting the butterfly out of a vellum. This die doesn’t really cut a butterfly out, so after die-cutting part I cut it out of the vellum with my scissors, leaving a small border around.
I also used the die with an ink blended background from my box of ink blended background made one day and put aside “to use later”. I don’t remember exactly how it was made, but knowing me I assume if was a blend of Salty Ocean and Broken China Distress Inks sprinkled with water.
In this case I wanted all pieces what would be die-cut to stay within the butterfly. So after die-cutting I taped the back side of the butterfly which made all pieces stuck to it and stay within the butterfly.
This butterfly I also cut out with my scissors, this time cutting along the stitched edge.
Next I layered the butterflies, adhering them together with a small amount of very strong Ranger Multi Media Matte liquid adhesive in the butterfly center.
Next I die-cut a white panel using the Stitched Rectangles Die Set and stamped a sentiment in the bottom part of it. I also die-cut the same panels out of light and dark blue cardstock. I adhered all panels onto a white card base with some rotation of one along another.
Next I adhered the butterfly onto the card.
Lastly I added several Studio Katia Gray Clouds Crystals to accentuate a card and hide the adhesive I used to adhere the vellum butterfly onto the colored one.
WOODGRAIN
My last card has a bit masculine feel to it. Mostly because of the color scheme and wood texture.
I started by die-cutting two Woodgrain Blocks out of a kraft cardstock. Next I adhered them onto a rustic cream card base, placing one right next to another.
I die-cut the butterfly out of a brown cardstock ,cut it out with my scissors and adhered onto the card. I only put adhesinve in the butterfly center, to have her wings sticking up in the air.
Next I white embossed a sentiment from the Big Greetings Stamp Set onto a brown cardstock strip and adhered it onto the card.
Lastly I added several brown sequins.

I would like to extend condolences for the loss of your mother-in-law. I have sent many sympathy cards over the years and now I make them. I had always had a hard time picking out a sympathy card and now have a hard time making one. Your cards are very pretty and your sympathy card very tasteful. I always enjoy reading what you write on your blog posts.
