Hi everyone! I’m over at Altenew blog today sharing a card featuring gouache flowers and was made using incredible Magnolias For Her set. For the color combo for this card I decided to take gray, deep red and white. Gray is a magical color. It coordinates with anything and anything makes looking better. To start off I cut a panel out of Altenew Pale Gray cardstock and inked it with gray Hickory Smoke Distress Ink. I did my inking intentionally uneven to make effect of dropping shadows. Next I slightly sprayed the panel with water using Distress Sprayer. Since distress ink reacts with water – it added some visual texture to the background.
Next I started working on my floral cluster. Using Ranger Super Fine Silver Embossing Powder I embossed a couple of big flowers, several buds and loose petals onto a Neenah Solar White cardstock and cut them out using my scissors. The big magnolias I colored with gouache paint. This paint is similar to watercolor but more opaque.
The other elements, like buds and petals I decided to leave them uncolored to add contrast to the gray background as well as deep red flowers.I assembled my floral cluster first adhering red magnolias to the background. I adhered the left one flat, with its petals bent a bit and the right flowers I adhered using a thick clear dot, to give it some dimension.
All other items I tacked under both magnolias, adhering some of them flat and some – using thick glue dots to add dimension and some dynamic to this cluster. Next I adhered the panel to a white card base. For the sentiment I took one from the same stamps set and stamped it onto a piece of white cardstock with Hero Arts Charcoal Ink, which I adhered under the cluster using white foam squares. Finally I added several marshmallow sequins and put some dots using a white pen.
I like how there gouache flowers turned out. Gouache has properties that watercolor has, but gives deeper and more opaque result.
