Hello and welcome to Altenew Celebrating Parents Card Drive Blog Hop!
The goal of this special blog hop is to support an annual Celebrating Parents Card Drive that Altenew run every year. During this drive Mother’s and Father’s Day cards are collected to be sent to seniors in shelters and nursing homes. Card drive participants besides serving this great cause also have a chance to win an Altenew gift certificate. You can check all details here.
I made three cards for this blog hop to give you some inspiration and ideas.
I always try to make more Father’s Day cards as masculine designs can be challenging for many while for me they’ re a lot of fun to make.
FATHER’S DAY CARD – TEXTILE
One of probably more common masculine design is using some “men textile” on a card. For my first card I decided to go this way showcasing shirt, jeans and leather.
First I made a panel out of a Solar White Cardsrtock and blended Ultramarine Dye Ink onto it. Then I stamped the Pinstripe background onto it with the Azurite Ink.
For the “jeans” pieces I blended Persian Blue Dye Ink onto a white panel and then stamped Rustic Linen with Sapphire Dye Ink. I cut triangles out of this panel, distressed their edges using my paper distresser and added “stitching” with a white pen. After that I adhered them onto the pinstripe panel. Which in turn got adhered onto a Parchment card base.
I cut a rectangle piece out of a Parchment Cardstock and stamped a sentiment from the Best Dad Stamp Set onto it using the Espresso Dye Ink. Then I stamped the same sentiment with a slight shift using the Rocky Shore Dye Ink (to create a look of embossed in a “leather” words).
After that I blended Rocky Shore Dye Ink onto the piece and distressed its edges.
I added antique brass fasteners in the corners of the “leather” and popped it onto the card.
FATHER’S DAY – INDUSTRIAL
Another classic masculine design is what I call “industrial”. Saying this I’m referring to metals, oil stains … you know what I mean, right?
So for my second card the color combo of choice was black, gray and silver. I used a Silver Mirror Cardstock. It may seem looking like a gold one some photos, but it’s silver. Mirror cardstock is very difficult to take photo of as everything about gets reflected in it AF!
So first I dry embossed the Grid Stencil into a Pale Gray Cardstock panel. Then I blended Industrial Diamond Dye Ink onto it to make the grid looking more defined.
I added splatters of a Jet Black Ink Spray onto the panel. And then I “colored” with Ebony Black Nuvo Crystal Drops on top. I did splatters first to get a “perfect imperfection” as far as splatters size and position go. Adding Nuvo on top was made to add them more slick and “car oil” look.
I adhered the panel onto a Silver Mirror one of a bigger size, which in turn got adhered onto a Jet Black card base.
Next I moved to making a “plaque”. I die-cut letters for the best dad phrase out of a Silver Mirror Cardstock and adhered them onto a Jet Black rectangle. I added antique nickel fasteners in the corners and popped it onto the card.
By the way – on this photo you can see the silver cardstock in it’s best.
MOTHER’S DAY
For the Mother’s Day card I wanted to make something elegant and light and floral (of course:)). Here I used the Best Mom Stamp Set.
I white embossed two floral picks onto a Montval Watercolor Paper and colored them with Altenew watercolors. Then I die-cut them using the matching dies.
Next I white embossed a sentiment in the bottom part of a Pale Gray panel and popped it onto a white card base.
I adhered one flower piece onto the card flat and foam mounted the second one on top.
Lastly I added several Snow Crystals.

Really a great idea and the silver foil cardstock is so fun to look at and see the reflection in. Hehehe, I think it’s the kid in me! Love the flowers you watercoloured! So soft and pretty!
