Altenew | Build-A-Flower: Larkspur + GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

Altenew Build-A-Flower Larkspur. Card by @craftwalks. #card #altenew #cardmaking #papercrafts #handmadecard

Hello there!

Today is Altenew Build-A-Flower product of the month mini-release. This month it’s Build-A-Flower: Larkspur.

Our Build-A-Flower: Larkspur set includes 1 6×8 stamp set ( stamp images) and 1 coordinating die set ( dies).

Larkspurs belong to the buttercup family and are native throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The flowers bloom in a variety of colors from white to blue-violet. Larkspur flowers are irregularly shaped and bloom loosely along a vertical stem. This stamp set includes a five layer larkspur bloom, three-layer leaf, and 11 sentiment words. There are flower and leaf outline images included, which can be used with the layer images or on their own with different coloring mediums.

This special product is only sold as a set, not individually.

I will confess- I had never heard about this flower before. One (of many) great thing of being on Altenew DT is that it improves my botanical knowledge.

I already mentioned several times before that I always was a big fan on dark backgrounds. But always tried to kind of hold myself from making such cards very often as mostly people are afraid of them. Now seems like dark backgrounds are becoming trendy. And I can make them more freely. This trend came mostly with pencil coloring. But I just take an opportunity for non pencil colored cards too.

Altenew Build-A-Flower Larkspur. Card by @craftwalks. #card #altenew #cardmaking #papercrafts #handmadecard

I started by stamping several elements for my floral cluster onto a white cardstock. I used Rose Quartz, Puffy Heart, Purple Wine and Cosmic Berry inks for lighter flower, Puffy Heart, Purple WineCosmic Berry and Jet Black for darker one, Forest Glades and Evergreen for leaves. And I used Antique Gold Embossing Powder for all outline stamps.
After all stamping was done I die-cut all pieces using the matching dies and traced the white border of the die-cuts with a black water based marker.
It’s important to use water based marker for this task. I wouldn’t recommend alcohol ones. First, if used next to embossing alcohol markers will color embossing too. While water based one will be resisted by heat embossing (if you’re a messy crafter with hands that can shake in the most inappropriate moment it can be especially important). Second – alcohol based markers tend to bleed into a cardstock core more than water based ones and can bleed into the area where you don’t want it to be.

I trimmed a panel out of Jet Black Cardstock and added some splatters of Antique Gold Ink Spray onto it. Followed by foam mounting the panel onto a white card base.

Then I adhered all die-cuts onto the panel forming a floral cluster. Foam mounted a sentiment stripe and added several gold sequins to accentuate the card.

I love larkspurs and think of them as an old-fashioned flower (maybe from your Grandmother’s garden). This is such a beautiful card and the black background sets off your design perfectly. 🙂

I love the fact that I am learning more about botany with every new Altenew Flower stamps/dies too. I think what you have done with these is amazing and putting them on a black background really makes them ‘pop’. Thank you for sharing this card design with us crafters. :O)

Svitlana, once again you amaze me with your design! The gold and pinks on this are spectacular and thank you so much for telling us that with alcohol markers that the embossing will transfer to the pen. (I have been trying to color in an embossed image with alcohol markers and I keep transferring the embossed part to the marker & now I know that is the problem. I thought it was just me. So thanks!)
I love how you did this card with the black, gold, and pinks. I really admire your talent! Thank you again, Liz
