Altenew Markers Release Blog Hop + Giveaway (CLOSED)

Altenew markers Release. Cards by @craftwalks

Hello and welcome to Altenew Markers Release Blog Hop + Giveaway. Today we’re releasing two new sets of Artist Markers! I believe it’s an exciting release for those who love Altenew markers and waiting for new colors:)

You probably came from Vicky Papaioannou blog. If not – you may consider starting from the beginning at Altenew blog and see what other members of Altenew design team and guest designers sharing (and also you have a chance to win a prize).

NEW ARTIST MARKERS SETS

So lets first talk about the new sets. With the previously released  Artist Markers Set A now there are 36 colors of Altenew markers, matching Altenew Dye Inks. And even though we can never get enough of different shades of inks and markers – these three sets I believe create a good variety and include colors, that may satisfy many coloring needs.

Artist Markers Set B includes: Soft Lilac, Lavender Fields, Deep Iris, Midnight Violet, Morning Frost, Evening Gray, Moon Rock, Lava Rock, Buttercream, Warm Sunshine, Caramel Toffee, Paper Bag.

Artist Markers Set C includes: Arctic, Caribbean Sky, Persian Blue, Sapphire, Blush, Rouge, Crimson, Velvet, Mango Smoothie, Cotton Candy, Peach Perfect, Dark Chocolate.

COLORING OVER MARKERS

My first card is a result of an experiment, which didn’t turned out as I expected and at first I recorded it as an Epic Fail. But continued coloring and at the en really liked it.

Here is the story. I tried several times creating distress or oxide background and then colored over it getting quite interesting results. So I wanted to do the same, but use Altenew Metallic Shimmer Sprays to create a background. Which I did onto a watercolor panel using Ruby Red, Warm Sunshine and Caramel Toffee Sprays. I sprayed a bit of each onto my glass mat, sprayed the watercolor panel with water and dipped it into the sprays puddles. Since the panel was wet – spray ink got picked up very well and I got quite intense background.

Next I grabbed a sandwich bag, picked up some ink left and transferred it onto my panel, doing so in kind of touching motion. To create these interesting ink blots.

Then I stamped Sketchy Floral using Grapevine Ink and started coloring the image. And that’s where it went not the same way I expected. When markers are used on a paper they soak into it, mix and blend together. Well, in my case this did’t happened. Markers behave rather like when are used on a non-porous or semi-porous surface, like vellum or acetate. After adding shades with darker marker I colored over with a lighter shade, but instead of getting blended result I saw that one color kind of replaced another.

Which was a bummer.  I think that ink sprays created some kind of coating on my panel, turning it into a semi-porous surface. Probably metallic particles are the reason. So markers didn’t work as I expected.

But as I said I continued coloring and the more I colored the more I liked the result. All these weird spots and unevenness created quite an artsy look.

I used Velvet, Crimson (set C) and Grapevine (set A) to color red elements. Dark Chocolate (set C), Paper Bag and Caramel Toffee (set B) to color brown elements.

To finish off the card I added a sentiment die-cut using Script Words 2 Die Set out of Solar White Cardstock and adhered the panel onto a white card base.

COLORING OVER MARKERS – TAKE 2

When I was creating background for the first card I had some ink leftover on my glass mat and didn’t want to discard it. So I picked it up with a sandwich bag and transferred onto another watercolor panel. This background happened to be not as intense as the first one.

And after I colored the first card I decided to try coloring over spray background one more time. Surprisingly enough – this time marker behaved exactly the way I expected them initially. Soaking into the paper an blending together.

I stamped a beautiful floral image from Just Because Stamp Set using Grapevine Ink and also colored it with markers. I didn’t color elements of this bouquet using “real” (so to speak) colors. For example non of the leaves are green. But followed the color of the background under each element.

And you can see that I got quite regular result, which we usually expect from using markers. They did blend very well. I think in this case when I was creating the background using leftover spray ink – I didn’t get as much metallic particles, but only ink. So my surface was quite porous.

After I finished coloring I stamped over the same bouquet in black to intensify outlines. Next I stamped the sentiment in black and foam mounted the panel onto a white card base. Lastly I added some clear droplets to accentuate the card.

BLUE AND GRAY

My last card is very simple and straightforward. I stamped an Arabesque Medallion onto a white panel and colored it using new blues from Altenew Artist Markers Set B and warm grays from Altenew Artist Markers Set C.

So I simply stamped the medallion onto a white panel and colored it using basic light to dark and then dark to light technique. Then I stamped the sentiment in black and adhered the panel onto a Pale Gray card base.
