Hi there!
Nowadays trends come and go so fast that something it’s hard to catch them. There was a chalkboard trend. Chalk as for me is still here, it’s not like a trend now, but rather became classic. Then it was mint. And everything became mint then. And while companies still were releasing all things mint – there came a trend for all things white. Or white with gold, especially gold polka-dotted . And then gold took place in its full. EVERYTHING became gold!
I don’t mind trends. Even more – all those appealed to me and as a result I now have something mint, something gold, something white and gold polka dotted. And A LOT OF chalk hahaha.
My only concern is that all these trends come and go so fast..
Anyways, the current trend is marble. Or marble with gold. Marble phone covers, MacBook covers, marble desks and stationary. Kitchen appliances and clothing prints..
I could not miss this trend at least in a card. First I needed a marble paper. Which I believe is somewhere on the market, but I didn’t want to buy any more PP. I have a several lifetime supply. So I decided to make it on my own. As there was a month of coloring with Kathy – a marble background was one of the projects I did. Or I should rather say – marble with gold veins. I painted it using my Gansai Tambi watercolor. The set I have has metallic pans.
On some point I think that background looked more like marble then now. I feel like I overworked it a bit hahaha. And when I shared it on my Instagram there were different versions of what people saw. Fur, ice, snow, stormy sky with lightnings and even shrimps on ice lol.
Anyways, that’s my version of marble with gold veins. To make it into a card I decided to add wood, as it’s a great match for marble.
Next I die cut Concord 9th butterflies from cherry and birch paper and adhered them to the marble panel. Also I cut out an A2 panel from cherry paper and adhered it to a Kraft card base. Then I rounded one corner of the marble panel using a corner chomper and foam mounted it to the card base. I used a tan stick-back foam that matched the card base. When I foam mounting elements of a card I try to color match if possible. So no redundant colors are seen. The sentiment I die-cut from mirror gold paper using Tim Holtz Celebration Words dies. I really like this die set. It’s relatively inexpensive considering how many dies you get. And the font I think works perfectly for CAS cards.
I adhered the sentiment flat to the marble panel using Ranger Multi Medium adhesive. This adhesive is one of the strongest and as a watercolor paper is a bit rough and sometimes can be tricky to adhere something to I decided to go with it. And I have a precision tip on this bottle that especially helps when I work with such intricate designs. To finish off my card I added several dots, wooden and metallic gold ones.
His card turned out to be a little bit unusual, but I’m glad that I did it. I like how different natural elements combined here.

Thank you a lot!

What was your process? Wet on wet?…colors?…I love it, just trying to figure out HOW you laid the color down! 🙂 I pulled out my Tambis and watercolor paper and will try to play…any tips would be nice. Thank you very much for sharing all your creative work with us! I love your “stuff”! 🙂

It will be try for me to explain how I did this. As I’m not very knowledgeable in watercolor. Yes, first I went wet on wet. When it dried – I added some details in wet on dry. Or sometimes I would re-wet some areas to get a sharp edge of a wash.
And finally I kind of drew veins with a small brush and then re-wet those as well. Hope this will help. But really when it comes to watercoloring like this for me it’s more “try and see”. It isn’t conscious process haha.
Thank you for stopping by!
