Hi there!
Today I want to share the Americana home decor I put up this year for 4th of July.
I’m only be living in US for 5 years. And my addiction to home decor started like 3-4 years ago. Of course first I decorated my apartment for Christmas, then for fall (my second favorite time of year after winter). And gradually I started putting up decor for other holidays.
Concerning 4th of July first it was just a flag 2 years ago. The last year I added some more items. And this year – even more.
When it comes to home decor, I try to have as budget-friendly as possible (because I need money to buy all stamps existing). So I mostly buy decor items at a Dollar Tree, thrift stores and DIY them.
One of the favorite spot of my home decor is this empty frame. I got it on flea market for $3 and painted in white. The first time I used it on Christmas, and since then every season is making something to hang there. Actually so far this something is always a wreath. Love wreaths, and wreaths hanging in an empty frame love even more.
To make it I got a twig wreath and several patriotic flowers bushes. I cut flowers heads from the stems and glued them to the wreath using heat gun.Next is this display. On the wall there is a framed 4th of July word art (found on Pinterest). Below on this console (which is a she cabinet from Ikea lol) some more simple decorations.
The bird house is thrifted a couple years ago. This eagle I bought the last year, it a wooden puzzle. I colored it and added some paper star die-cuts.
Dollar tree flowers in antique buckets, straws and the bucket in the middle are also from Dollar Tree. As well as the flag I put in an empty wine bottle.
This star I bought 90% off at Hallmark when the store was being closed. It was about $4 or so (I would never buy it for the full price). It’s a Christmas tree topper, had a picture of Santa on it. But I didn’t like that Santa and got it to repaint in the first place. So I did. Some acrylic craft paint, painters tape, die-cut stars and patience (it just took me much more time to paint then I expected). But I LOVE how it turned out! I was hesitating first if I want to sacrifice it for Americana decor (that doesn’t last much). I also had ideas to paint it in white, so it can fit in some other theme, or covered it with chalkboard paint. But now I’m glad that decided to make it like this.
These food cans I made the last year, made some kind of flag imitation. It’s quite easy and I believe is fun to make with kids.
As well as this garland.
I bought a pack of those wooden sticks at a Dollar Store. Make stars from them using heat gun, and colored with craft paint.
Velvet bows are from Dollar Tree as well 🙂
I also have this chalkboard frame, that is constantly hanged in our apartment. I usually use it to write a lovely messages to my hubby or some “word art” for holidays. I quoted “word art” as cannot call it art under any circumstances. I usually find something on Pinterest and trying to replicate (and usually create a horrible copy haha).
I made a short video tour of this decor as well.
You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube
We live in not very big apartment (well for New York it’s huge, sometimes apartments here more remind closet, for the price of three-storey house). So there is not much to decorate. I will probably be adding some items in future. But I already feel that the amount of decor is sufficient 😉 Especially as Americana color palette is quite active adding too much of these color will make it too busy and tasteless. I think if I will add some more, it should be in neutral colors.
Thank you for stopping by and happy 4th of July!
