Altenew April Dies and Card Kit Release. Cards by @craftwalks

This post is also available in: Russian

Hello and welcome to Altenew April Release Blog Hop. We are releasing new amazing layering dies and a fun card kit!

You probably came from Isha Gupta blog. If not – you may consider starting from the beginning at Altenew blog and see what other members of Altenew design team and guest designers sharing (and also you have a chance to win a prize).

I made four cards for this release.

CONCRETE JUNGLE

Almost a year ago I made one card using Sketchy Cities America stamp set. On that card I colored New York in gray and yellow, one of my favorite color combos for this city. New York is beautiful any season (although in summer it’s unbearable hot). But I especially love when it’s gray, severe and fogy. Then it looks and feel so mystical and Gothamish. And the only prominent color you see is yellow, from cabs.

For today card I decided to replicate this color scheme. The top is gray, for concrete jungle. And the bottom is yellow, for cabs.

To start off I die cut Cityscape B out of Solar White cardstock. This die has many time elements, I was using Tool N One to clean the die and die cut from these pieces. So convenient!

I inked the top part using Pure Graphite, and the bottom – Warm Sunshine inks. Then I die cut Cityscape A out of Jet Black cardstock and adhered it on top of gray and yellow one.

I inked a white card base using Industrial Diamond ink. I only inked the top part, to have bullring windows white. Then I adhered my city scene on top.

To add it more Gotham like look I also added some “searchlight rays” by applying a stripe of tape and inking over it with Industrial Diamond ink. Which resulted with stroke like pattern.

Finally I die cut hello word using Inline Alpha die set out of Jet Black cardstock and adhered it to the card bottom. These letters fit the city scene perfectly, like they were meant to be used together.

Don’t you think it looks like a cartoon or something?

LAYERED FLORAL

For the next card I used Layered Floral A and Layered Floral B dies. The top layer was die cut out of Woodgrain Powder and the bottom out of Dark Gray cardstock.

I then adhered them one on top another and added a sentiment from Label Love set stamped with Industrial Diamond ink.

Was so easy to do.  Which is by the way one of the benefits of these dies. Of course you can be creative and use some techniques to decorate them. Like I did on the card above. But can also just die cut them, layer one on top of another, add a sentiment and call it a card. Or I’d rather say – call it a wow card!

And if you use any special cardstock, like here I was using a woodgrain one, then the result will be even better with the same effort.

DRY EMBOSSING WITH DIES

For this card I used Layered Medallion A and Layered Medallion B dies. First I dry embossed a white panel using Layered Medallion B die.

Altenew layered Medallions Cover Die. Card by @craftwalks

To dry emboss with a die you need a rubber mat (usually all die-cut machine brands have those, they can also be called embossing mat), which you place under your cardstock. So the sandwich USUALLY would be (from bottom to top) – cutting plate, rubber mat, cardstock, die (cutting side down), cutting plate. When you run such sandwich through you die-cutting machine a rubber mat placed under a cardstock prevents die from cutting all the way through and you end up with embossed design. Very cool technique, I love using it.

A word of advice. Since this cover dies are bigger and cover a card completely – the sandwich will be a bit ticker. And the cardstock you’re using also matters, as it adds to your sandwich thickness. And you’ll need to add more power while running it through your die-cutting machine. As a person who broke two machines I now always am very careful when I feel my machine resists a lot. As the more power I need to squeeze a sandwich in, the more risk of braking my machine. In this case instead of top cutting mat I just used several sheets of thick paper.

Next, using Layered Medallion A die I made a die-cut out of Dark Chocolate cardstock and adhered it on top of the embossed panel. Which in turn was adhered onto a white card base.

I stamped a couple of flowers from Persian Motifs set and colored them with Artist Markers.  Then I cut them with my scissors and adhered onto my card. Lastly I added several sequins and a sentiment from the same stamp set.

ALTENEW NEW DAY CARD KIT

A new amazing New Day Card Kit is also a part of this release.

Altenew New Day Card Kit

Kit contents:

  1. Thirty four cardstock die cuts
  2. Six 8.5×11 inch cardstock (Made in UK)
  3. Forty eight 6×6 inch pattern paper sheets (two of each design)
  4. Two alphabet sticker sheets
  5. 12 wood veneer frames
  6. 6×8 inch photopolymer clear stamp set (Made in USA)
  7. One gold glitter tape
  8. Frame die, hearts and stars die
  9. Enamel dots and hearts (4×6 inch sheet)

I made a simple card using this kit. The moment I saw this frame die I wan’t able to think of anything else then cutting it out of Gold Mirror cardstock and create an arrangement with flowers.

I made the mentioned frame and also stamped the flowers from the kit stamp set using Rouge, Velvet and Crimson ink and hand cut them.

Next I cut and scored a white card base and foam mounted the frame onto it, adhering the flowers kind of growing from inside of it. Lastly I added a LOVE U cardstock die-cut from the kit.

I’m so in love with this frame die, see me using it a lot in future. I’ll be sharing some more cards made using this kit soon.
