Hi friends!
I’m over at Altenew blog today sharing two cards made using Be a Lighthouse stamp set. The cards have similar design and kind of display the same scene both at day and night. And made using different techniques.
The first card shows a bright day scene and was made in faux watercolor technique using distress inks and markers.
First I stamped the scene using distress inks onto a watercolor paper. To multi color stamp of a lighthouse on a island I was applying ink to the stamp using distress markers. Any water based markers will work here. If you don’t have any, but have a stamp positioning tool, you can make multi color stamping using it. You need to apply first color onto the stamp using an ink pad, remove ink from areas where you don’t want it to be and stamp it. Then apply another color, remove unneeded ink and stamp again. Until you stamp the whole image.
I’d work starting from the lightest color to the darkest. And if there is some color overlap if will be less visible. But color overlapping is not something you need to worry about much using this technique as it doesn’t really matter.
After that I colored the scene using distress inks. I was pressing ink pads onto my craft sheet (an acrylic block will work as well), adding a bit of water and using these for coloring. And I’m talking not about advanced coloring. I simply was adding water to some areas washing out stamping and then adding some color where it was needed.
Distress inks react with water, so stamping with them was partially diluted and become more looking like a painting, then like stamping. I was using a water brush for coloring in this case. This brush has plastic bristles which are more resilient than a regular brush bristles. And I like them more to wash out distresses.
To finish off my card I stamped a sentiment using Industrial Diamond ink, cut the panel to the size of the scene. I also decided to tear the top edge to add some interest. I adhered the scene onto a panel of Pale Gray cardstock. Which in turn was adhered onto a white card base. Which I made smaller then A2 size to fit the scene better.
If for the first card I used faux watercolor, the second card is made using real watercolor.
First I clear embossed the scene onto a watercolor panel. Then colored it with my Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. I did pretty messy and basic coloring. Basically using two colors, a lighter and darker blue. I colored the Moon in yellow and added a bit of yellow to the water and sky parts. I meant a moonlight bu this 🙂
As I often do when use embossing for resist effect only, not as a part of a card design, I ironed embossing off.
I added stars by spraying the panel with white spray and also adding some dots using white pen. Lastly I adhered it onto a panel of Pale Gray cardstock, which was adhered onto a white card base. A sentiment was stamped onto the gray panel using Industrial Diamond ink.
Both cards were pretty simple and quick to make and didn’t require any coloring skills whatsoever. But I think I got them looking like there was some advanced coloring 🙂
That’s would be it from me for today. Have a wonderful week!

These are both stunning, Svitlana! What gorgeous scenes. I’m blown away by the night time one – the white embossing is so dramatic and sets off the deep blues to perfection. Thanks for the inspiration!
