Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it now. Hope you had the greatest time with your family.
In this post I want to share Christmas home decor I put up in our apartment this year.
It can seem a bit later for such post as Christmas is over. But as I mentioned before, I’m an Orthodox Christian and we celebrate religion holidays according Julian calendar. Which is 13 days ahead.
Or I should rather say we celebrate both Christmases, in December and January. It may sound weird… I only started doing this since moved to US, before I only had one Christmas, the January one. But since moving here I gradually started taking in all holidays I never knew before (like 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Halloween) and American Christmas customs are not exceptions. So now when it’s Christmas Eve and then Christmas Day I just cannot ignore these days and treat as regular one (even though I did 7 and more years ago). After all it’s still birthday of our Savior (in fact those calendars are just what people decided). And for this Christmas we go with American traditions. While in January there are Ukrainian traditions.
Sounds strange and messed up probably. It’s like Italian-Jewish families celebrate both Hanuka and Christmas kind of situation 🙂
Anyhow, we put Christmas tree and decor a bit later, as need them to be kind of fresh at least the middle of January. And I planned this post to go live a little bit earlier, but got into holiday fuss (I’m sire you can relate) and then on Christmas Eve and Day i just didn’t want to spend time at my desk (I’m sure you can relate as well).
So even though it’s kind of late, I decided to post it anyways. As usual there will be some photos and then below you can find a short video.
As usual when it comes to home decor – I try to keep it as budget friendly as possible. Of course with Christmas it’s not always an option. As I like it so much an sometimes just cannot control myself and splurge. Like I did buying these wooden sleigh from Jo-Ann or red one at Pier 1. In my defense I should say that those almost first items in my holiday collection. Back then I only started getting into decor. And they weren’t so expensive. I just got them before the season, which I almost don’t do anymore. Now I try to get stuff after the season on good sale. This way even Anthropologie prices don’t look so bad haha.
When we buy our Christmas tree, they usually cut some branches at the very bottom and we always take them as well. First of all I make a wreath using them.
All pine branches that left after making the wreath I incorporate into my decor. These natural pine branches is a great addition to the decor. They make it more live, kind of. And pull everything together.
Anthropologie trees I mentioned. Scored them the last year 75% off, their regular prices were beyond my range of course.
These stockings are from Pottery Barn, also got after Christmas. They still were a bit pricey (it’s Pottery Barn after all), but at the time I was a stockings virgin, we never did them before and I didn’t really know where to get them. Besides as this was something that would be used year after year I wanted them to be nice and classic and good quality.
Mercury Glass Christmas trees – another not so cheap items I scored on good sale at TJMaxx after Christmas a couple years ago.
Mason jar snow “balls” so cheap and easy to make, but they look classy and magical.
And last but not least – our Christmas tree 🙂
And of course now all the same but in the form of video, hope you enjoy watching and maybe gather some ideas for the next year.
I plan to hit a couple stores these days hunting for some decor gems on good sale 🙂
