Hi there! Don’t know how it is for other crafters but I am often inspired for a card by something that is not cardmaking related (like stamps ). Like a movie, or a bag pattern I saw on somebody in a train, a store window design etc. I decided to create some kind of series for creations I was inspired for by things like that. It won’t be something regular coming each Saturday. Just when I make something of this nature. And today I want to share a Game of Thrones card which I made inspired by GOT. It’s my favorite show now (and I’m sure your favorite too, if not – really?).
Although my favorite is too weak word to express my feelings. I’m obsessed with it.
So for those who don’t watch this show (again – really?) there are three dragons over there. They are of different colors and their “mother” command them to fire by word Dracarys, which means “Dragonfire” in High Valyrian. Here I probably sound like a nerd who plays WarCraft, D&D and reads all fantasy literature. I’m not, I’m quite boring in fact. It’s just that show that took me so much 😉
Anyways, when Clearly Besotted released this set with way too adorable dragons, I knew I need it to create a Game of Thrones inspired card. And I created it during coloring challenge that Kathy Racoosin runs over in her blog and Instagram now.
First I colored three dragons, trying to color them close to what they are in the show. I colored them using COPICs markers and then covered with Wink Of Stella to add some shimmer, which I think is appropriate for dragons.
Next I took a dark gray card base and stamped a grunge background in SSS Cobblestone ink. I like backgrounds like these, also I believe they can be used not only on vintage or grunge cards.
I embossed the sentiment using an alphabet stamps set from Lawn Fawn. While using an alphabet set can be a pain yet not with this one. Stamps in this set align along each other very easily and the gap between them is not so big. In fact, Lawn Fawn have several set of such type, in different fonts. I will link them below if you’re interested.
As I wanted the sentiment to be kind of made of fire and I did this adding three colors of embossing powder. Working with embossing powders you should keep in mind that sometimes colorant of embossing powder can be dye, hence the color won’t be seen on a darker cardstock. Here I used Zing! from American Crafts, this powder is opaque.
Finally I added my three dragons, using black adhesive foam squares. White ones wouldn’t work here as all items of the card are on a darker side.
So here it is, a Game of Thrones card 🙂 Are you ever inspired by something like a movie or TV show?
I’m taking now an OCC Heat Wave, love their classes and almost never miss one. On Day 3 Jennifer shows how several embossing powders can be mixed to get an interesting result. That’s what I did on this card for the sentiment.

FAB mix of embossing colours for the sentiment! And those little dragons are just adorable….which I’m not sure they are in GOT. Well, hubby and I only made it through the first season and all the rest of the seasons are waiting for us to watch them….maybe one day we will find the time 😉
