Today I’m sharing a card featuring the gorgeous Essential Textures: Basketweave Letterpress Plate Set and inspired by apple picking.
APPLE PICKING INSPIRED CARD WITH BASKETWEAVE LETTERPRESS
I’m a big fan of background products (stamps, stencils, press plates, you name it) and I particularly favor natural designs.
When I saw this letterpress plate, I wanted to get my hands on it. It’s a background plate, which can be used independently, but I wanted to have some supporting actors as well. The first thing that likely comes to mind when seeing this design is a basket filled with freshly harvested items. For me, said items were apples as I enjoy apple picking the most among all PYO activities.
BASKETWEAVE BACKGROUND LETTERPRESS
I started making the card by creating a basketweave background using the press plate in question.
First, I colored a white panel using Sand Dunes Fresh Dye Ink (by applying the ink pad directly to the paper until I completely colored it).
Next, I added the basketweave design using the Rocky Shore Fresh Dye Ink.
APPLE ELEMENTS
For the apple elements, I used the Blossoming Apple Bundle, which includes a press plate, matching die and coloring stencil.
I impressed the apple branch design onto a white cardstock using the Blossoming Apple Press Plate Set and Espresso Fresh Dye Ink. After that, I colored it using the coloring stencil and inks from the Red Cosmos, Green Valley, Pocketful of Sunshine, and Coffee Break Fresh Dye Ink Bundles.
Next, the apple branch was die-cut using the matching die. To not have white edges around the apple branch elements I filled them up using the Rocky Shore and Sand Dunes Artist Markers.
ASSEMBLING THE CARD
I could use the apple branch as the focal point of the card, which would work perfectly. However, lately, I’ve been into cutting one element into several pieces to frame the background. It seems to be a technique I’ve been using for many of my recent cards. So that’s exactly what I did for this card as well.
To add some more interest to the card, I also tore the background in two parts in the middle and distressed the torn edges. I think this look matches the card theme nicely.
The background panel parts were foam-mounted onto a white card base, followed by foam-mounting the apple branch pieces on top. I also added brown splatters onto the background and apple elements for extra interest.
I created a sentiment using the Blossoming Apple Bundle and popped it up onto the card. Several Red Cosmos Enamel Dots finished off the card.
