Hi friends!
Today I’m sharing a thank you card featuring a simple faux watercolor technique using stamped carnations. The floral images in the Papertrey Ink From The Garden Stamp Set have a loose, sketchy style that immediately reminded me of watercolor flowers, which inspired me to create a faux watercolor look for the background.
To create the panel, I stamped the carnation images repeatedly to form an all-over floral background. Instead of watercoloring the flowers themselves, I painted the spaces between them with blue and green watercolors, allowing the colors to blend naturally across the panel. This creates the illusion of a fully painted watercolor background while keeping the stamped flowers crisp and detailed.
Once the watercoloring was finished, I splattered the panel with white ink spray for extra texture and contrast. The white speckles add a little more interest and help bring the whole background together.
For the sentiment, I white heat embossed the large “Thanks” from the Papertrey Ink Give Thanks Sentiments Stamp Set onto Classic Kraft Cardstock, then die cut and popped it up onto the colorful background.
A piece of natural twine finish off the design without taking attention away from the watercolor effect.
The finished panel is mounted on a Classic Kraft Cardstock base, which softens the bright blues and greens and gives the card a warm, rustic feel. I always enjoy pairing bold colors with kraft cardstock, and I think it complements this design beautifully.
