BOTHANICAL PLAID

I used the new Botanical Plaid Stencil Set to create this warm and cozy fall card. This stencil set is so clever — it builds a beautiful design of a plaid with florals integrated right into it. You could technically create a similar look by combining any floral stencil set with a plaid background stencil, but that would require a lot of masking and fussy cutting, especially around the smaller details. With this set, though, I was able to achieve that intricate floral plate design almost effortlessly and in no time.

For the background, I reached for the new Sage Garden and Earth Tones Fresh Dye Ink Bundles and paired them with the existing Warm & Cozy Fresh Dye Ink Bundle. The orange tones from Warm and Cozy were perfect for the flowers, Sage Garden worked beautifully for the leaves, and Earth Tones added soft neutral stripes to the plate.

I even mixed in a few orange stripes using Firebrick Fresh Dye Ink from the Warm & Cozy Bundle for a touch of warmth and variation.

Each flower and leaf in the background has only two stencil layers, but to add more depth and interest, I used a simple blending trick. I first applied the lighter color for the base layer and then used a darker shade through the same stencil to blend around the edges. That little bit of shading helped the elements look more dimensional and less flat.

Once the background was finished, I wanted it to stay the star of the card, so I kept the rest of the design simple.

 I added a white-embossed sentiment on kraft cardstock, which I had made earlier using the One-Go: Loving Sentiments Stamp Set and its coordinating die.

I popped it up on the background for a little dimension and wrapped some orange jute twine beneath it, tying it into a small bow.

To bring everything together, I added a few brown paint splatters for that cozy, homey feel and finished the look with several enamel dots from the Warm and Cozy Enamel Dots Set. Finally, I mounted the finished panel onto a white card base.

FALL CUPCAKE CARD

My second card features the new Mini Delight: Sweet Life and Craft-A-Flower: Coral Charm Peony, which were used to make the main elements.

I started by creating the cupcake using only the Mini Delight: Sweet Life die set and several cardstocks from the Crafty Necessities line.

For the cupcake base, I used Honey Drizzle cardstock. To create the chocolate frosting, I layered Espresso and Dark Chocolate cardstock. The cupcake wrapper I die cut from white cardstock and colored using Sage Stone and Olive Grove Fresh Dye Inks from the Sage Garden Fresh Dye Ink Bundle.

After cutting all the elements, I adhered them together, keeping the wrapper flat against the cupcake and using thin black foam squares to slightly pop up the frosting for some dimension. I also wrapped orange jute twine around the wrapper to give it a cozy fall look.

Next, I created a smaller floral element using the Craft-A-Flower: Coral Charm Peony Die Set. This die creates a large dimensional flower, but I only used the three smallest layers to better fit the size of the cupcake.

I cut the petals from Crafty Necessities: Sunkissed cardstock, and for the flower center, I used Crafty Necessities: Orange Cream and Sunkissed cardstock. Before assembling, I gently curled the petals upward to give them more shape and realism. Then, I layered and adhered the pieces together.

For the leaves, I used dies from the same set and cut them from Crafty Necessities: Orange Cream, Sunkissed, and white cardstock. I colored some of the white die cuts with Sage Stone and Olive Grove Fresh Dye Inks, then shaped them a bit for extra dimension.

To assemble the card, I cut a panel from Crafty Necessities: Misty Moor cardstock and adhered all the die-cut elements to it, placing the cupcake in the center with the flower tucked at the top right and leaves around them. I then added brown spray splatters for a fun, textured look.

For the background, I used the Botanical Plaid Stencil Set with inks from the Sage Garden, Earth Tones, and Warm & Cozy Fresh Dye Ink Bundles to create a warm, fall-colored background in shades of brown, orange, and sage.

I adhered it onto a white card base and popped up the Misty Moor panel with black foam squares.

For the sentiment, I used the “Hugs” die from the Mini Delight: Sweet Life set, cutting both the word and its shadow from white cardstock and coloring them with Mossy Granite and Sagestone Fresh Dye Inks. I layered the sentiment pieces and popped them onto the card.

Finally, I finished the design by adding several Earth Tones and Sage Garden Enamel Dots for a subtle touch of shine and color.
