BUILD-A-GARDEN: BRANCHING ROSES

I used this month’s Build-A-Garden: Branching Roses and the new Fresh Dye Inks to create a floral card with striking red background. The Build-A-Garden set features a large, captivating rose arrangement, perfect not only for stenciling but also for coloring with any medium of your choice! To top it off, it also includes heartfelt sentiments like “Take care,” “Miss you,” “You are the best,” and more.

First, I die-cut the rose arrangement design out of a white cardstock using the Add-On Die. I did this step first, as I find it easier to place the stamp onto a die-cut vs the opposite. With images that have “movable” elements to it (like branches or stems) there is a risk of placing them incorrectly when stamping which will cause the stamped image not matching the die.

Next, I stamped the rose arrangement image onto the die-cut using the Espresso Fresh Dye Ink. Followed by coloring it using the Build-A-Garden: Branching Roses Coloring Stencil and inks from the Blushberry Bliss, Sun-Kissed Delights, and Jade Dreams Fresh Dye Ink Bundles.

The background was made using the Garden Trellis Cover Die. I wanted it to match perfectly the rose arrangement image. And since I’m a cardstock hoarder I probably would’ve been able to find the cardstock to match. But I went the easiest route by creating my own cardstock with the ink-to-paper technique (aka swiping an inkpad all around white cardstock until it’s completely colored by it). You may find this technique as a waste of ink, but to be honest, those inkpads are so juicy and last forever. In more than decade in this hobby I only ran out of one, my very first, Distress Inkpad.

So, I created two cardstock panels using the Blush Rose and Raspberry Sunsen Fresh Dye Inks. The darkest, Raspberry Sunsen, serves as the background base. While the lighter Blush Rose one was used to create the Gaden Trellis die-cut.

I added some “height” to the trellis die-cut by using a couple more of such die-cuts (made out of whatever red cardstock) and stacking them underneath the Blush Rose one.

The rose arrangement element created using this Build-A-Garden product is quite large and doesn’t fit completely on an A2 card. I cut it in several pieces to fit onto my card without timing off its edges. And tucked cut off pieces under the main one. All floral elements were popped up on the background using black adhesive foam squares.

The sentiment was made using a stamp and die from the same Build-A-Garden Bundle. I popped it up onto the rose arrangement element.

Several gems from the Red Jasper Gem Sparkles finished off the card.
