I’m sharing today a floral card idea with natural vibes, showcasing a realistic wood background complemented by a die-cut inlay technique.
This card is inspired by those custom wood and resin tables that seem to be popular now (at least I see their crafting process quite often in my social media feeds).
CREATING A REALISTIC WOOD BACKGROUND
Usually, I start making my card by creating a focal element and a background afterward.
This time, however, I was eager to try the recently released Essential Textures: Wood Press Plate to create a realistic wood background.
I love realistic designs in general, but wooden ones hold a special place in my heart. I never tire of incorporating them into my cards.
First, I pressed the wood background design into a Parchment Cardstock panel using the Essential Textures: Wood Press Plate and Mocha Fresh Dye Ink.
Next, I blended the same Mocha Fresh Dye Ink onto the background using the Large Blending Brush to add more “wooden” color to the Parchment panel.
For a more finished look around the edges, I blended the Espresso Fresh Dye Ink using a Mini Blending Brush.
The smaller the brush the more intense ink blending you can achieve. I used the Large Blending Brush to add a softer ink blending and the smaller Mini Blending Brush for a darker outcome.
FLORAL DIE-CUT INLAY
Using the Sweet Jasmine Complete Bundle, I created the floral element for my card.
First, I created the outline using the Desert Night Fresh Dye Ink and Sweet Jasmine Press Plates. After that, I colored it using the Sweet Jasmine Simple Coloring Stencil and Cool Summer Fresh Dye Ink Bundle.
Next, I die-cut the floral using the Sweet Jasmine Die Set.
Using the same die, I die-cut two pieces out of the realistic wood background I created earlier.
While positioning the die, I ensured that a single floral element cut in half would sufficiently fill the die-cut spaces.
I adhered the wood background panel onto a panel of a slightly smaller size and then adhered the floral element halves into the corresponding negative spaces.
After that, I foam-mounted the wood background with floral inlays onto a white card base using the Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
I created the sentiment using a press plate from the Sweet Jasmine Press Plates, Dusk Fresh Dye Ink, and Sweet Jasmine Die Set. The sentiment popped up on the card.
To accentuate it, I added several light blue and white enamel dots from the Lapis Lazuli and Essential Black & White Sets.
