Altenew | Fresh Green Watercolor Card

Hi friends!

I’m sharing today a bright watercolor card featuring Artistry by Altenew Watercolor Tubes. These watercolors are incredible, they’re artist-grade, which sounded rather intimidating as I’m not at all an artist. Until I tried them for the first time.

Creating a stylish watercolor design with them is incredibly simple! They practically handle all the work for you. At least on my not-artistry crafter level (let’s face it, I’m not creating timeless art lol).

I used a beautiful floral from the Castle Garden Stamp Set and chose the Cold-Pressed Watercolor Paper as my preferred paper. I like the texture of cold-pressed paper and how watercolor lies on it. However, I was a bit concerned whether heat embossing would work well on its rough surface.

Turned out that I didn’t have to worry about it at all. The embossing resulted in very crisp and detailed!

I wasn’t very original when it came to color combo selection and opted for an always successful monochromatic look.

I used a mix of Phthalo Green and Opera Lemon to create the bright green I used to color the petals, Phthalo Green and Permanent Yellow Deep were used for a deeper green I used for leaves, Permanent Yellow Deep and Toluidine Red was used for the flower centers.

I opted to go with a messier watercolor look, so as I was coloring the flowers I was extending the painting beyond the image outlines. As well as added splatters to the background to “support” the messy look.

To tone down a bit the “freshness” of the watercolor background I opted to use Parchment Cardstock for my card base and sentiment strip.
A natural twine was wrapped around the panel.

To accentuate the card I added enamel dots from Tropical Forest Set were added.
