Spellbinders | Gnome Christmas Cards

Hi there!

How is it going? Still enjoying summer? I obviously don’t, counting days till my favorite season start. Making fall and winter cards help me to survive through it (especially this heatwave that we experienced the last week). There are only 2 things that are good about summer – fresh local produce and the fact that the whole fall and winter are ahead!

I came today to share a couple of holiday cards featuring adorable gnomes from the Spellbinders Holiday Gnomes Clear Stamp Set.

SNOWY GRAY BACKGROUND

I like the combination of gray and red on holiday cards, it looks quite chic and stylish.

First I stamped, colored and cut out two gnomes from the set. Staying within the said color combo.

After that, I moved to creating the background. I used one snowflake to make the background. It was a bit tedious work, but not exactly difficult. Using a MISTI grid (and MISTI itself for that matter) helped big time. I white embossed the snowflake 9 times onto a light gray panel and also added some white paint splatters for additional interest.

For even more “additional interest” I wrapped baking twine around the top part of the panel. After that, it was foam mounted onto a white card base.

I stamped the sentiment in red onto a white strip and popped it up onto the card. Lastly, the cutsie gnomes were popped up onto it as well.

WINTER GNOME SCENE

For my second card I used all three gnomes from the set, to not leave anyone behind. I have this weird thing when I feel sorry for ornaments that ended up on the back of the Christmas tree, old things that I’m replacing with new ones etc. It’s silly of course as inanimate objects cannot feel, it’s probably some amount of child in me still have these feelings. So same is applied to stamps from a set that I don’t put in use 😉

I started making the card by stamping the gnomes onto a white panel. I used masking to prevent them from overlapping. After that, I colored them using COPIC markers. Then I covered them all with masks as well as added a “snowdrift” mask  (which is just a hand-cut curly piece of masking paper) in the bottom part of the panel.

After that, I stamped two trees on both sides of the gnomes group. I stamped them using green ink and then covered them with clear embossing, to protect them from the ink blending I did next.

I blended Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks onto the panel, leaving a white strip at the top. After that I added tiny paint splatters onto the panel. I used Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Splatter Brush for this, this wonderful brush really creates the tiniest splatters.

 

After I finished with the background I removed the masks from the gnomes and stamped the sentiment in the bottom part of the panel in red. Lastly, I foam mounted it onto a white card base.

That would be it for today. I really like how these cards turned out. The gnomes are simply adorable!
