Hi friends! Happy Saturday!
We all have busy lives, but I hope this weekend you find sometime to enjoy crafting (if that’s what you desire to do). I myself am dedicated to spend some quality crafting time this weekend. And in case you need some ideas I have a couple to share with you today using some new Embossing Folders from Spellbinders February 2020 Collection.
What is great about these folders (besides gorgeous and modern designs) is that they not only emboss but also die cut small elements at the same time. You can check out the introductory video for these products.
I made two cards using the new embossing folders and each I used in not exactly straight-forward ways.
DISASSEMBLED EMBOSSING FOLDER
One of the way to stretch you embossing folders (or background stamps for that matter is to cut apart an embossed piece into several logical pieces and then use them separately. As I did for my first card using the Spellbinders Delhi Cut And Emboss Folder. Of course not every design can be suitable for cutting apart.
Unfortunately an embossed design can be card to capture on photo, especially as I used white cardstock. But trust me – in real life all texture is there.
So first I embossed a white panel using the mentioned folder. Then I trimmed off several stripes of embossed design. I also fussy cut a sun looking element of the design.
Next I made a side folding A2 card base and foam mounted the embossed elements onto it. I did it in different order than they were located in the original embossing folder design.
For the sentiment I hot foiled a sentiment from the Spellbinders More Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plates Set using the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Roll – Matte Silver onto a strip of the same cardstock as the card base. For foiling I used the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System.
Lastly I popped up the sentiment strip using black adhesive foam squares.
INK BLENDING OVER AN EMBOSSED DESIGN
I used the amazing Spellbinders Lahaina Cut And Emboss Folder got my second card. I mean – tropical background, who can resist?
So first I embossed a dark blue panel using this amazing folder. Next I blended a gold pigment ink all over it. I wanted to get a quite defined ink blending of the panel. Which usually you can achieve by doing heavy handed ink blending. But in case of the embossed design I wanted to have only raised parts covered with ink. And doing heavy handed blending (in other words – pressing with my blending tool too much) I would also cover not raised areas as well. Basically my whole panel would be covered with gold (ask me how I know lol).
So instead I tried quite light handed ink blending. but when I was picking up ink from an ink pad I pressed my ink applicator into the ink pad quite firmly, to pick up as much ink as possible. I still ended up having some not raised areas slightly inked. This is kind of inevitable. But since I was using pigment ink which sits on top of a cardstock (versus dye ink that get soaked into a cardstock) – I was able to remove ink from those areas using my Mono Zero Eraser (which is a regular eraser, but in a pen form with a very fine tip).
Then I foam mounted the panel onto a card base of the same cardstock using black adhesive foam squares.
For the sentiment I used the Spellbinders Deco Bold Alpha Die Set (which was July 2018 Large Die Of The Month Club, but still is available online). This set has two dies for each letter – the one that die cuts a smaller letter with pierced holes and the corresponding bigger one (or a letter shadow if you will).
I used the smaller letter dies to with the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System to foil the letters design with the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Roll – Champagne. And then I die-cut each letter with the corresponding bigger die.
After that I popped up the letters onto the card.
Which I finished off using several Gold Crystals.
