Spellbinders | Back to School. August Small Die Of The Month

Hi friends!

When you’re a cardmaker you always know which season is coming. Craft companies and their new products never let you to fell of track in this matter. Currently the back to school season is in its full swing and I want to share a corresponding card made with this month’s Spellbinders Small Die Of The Month – Pack It Up. This set is packed with dies to make a fun interactive (if you wish) backpack and several things that can be stuck into it.

I will be totally honest – I don’t have anyone to give such cards. I don’t have kids of school age in my family, neither I know any other kid to give such cards. BUT! I love making school themes cards as they’re an opportunity to make a chalkboard card. And I’m always happy to make one.

So for my card first I made a simple chalkboard panel. I die-cut a sentiment letters out of a masking paper, stuck them onto a black panel and blended white pigment ink on top. I also inked the rest of the panel, trying to get rather uneven coverage. After that, while the pigment ink still was wet I rubbed the panel with a paper towel to smudge out the ink in more chaotic manner. Then I removed the masking to reveal the sentiment.

I made the die-cut in mint-red-white color scheme. I love how red looks against a chalkboard. And mint in turn coordinates well with red.

Next I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base and popped the backpack on top.

Lastly I added several enamel dots (real ones lol).
