Hi friends,
I have a pleasure to play with the Spellbinders Big Die Of The Month of February and today I want to share two cards made using this set.
BUTTERFLY
This set has four dies to make a beautiful butterfly of a decent size. And you can mix and match dies to get different looks. When it comes to butterflies I often see a vellum option. Sometimes it can be a lot of color, but this time I wanted vellum. So I did.
For my butterfly I did three layers. Two are made out of a white cardstock and the third is out of a vellum. I stacked them all together.
Then I blended Worn Lipstick and Broken China Distress Oxide Inks onto a white panel, sprayed it with clear water using my Distress Sprayer and foam mounted it onto a white card base.
I die-cut a sentiment out of a white cardstock blended with the same Oxides and adhered it on top of the butterfly.
The funny thing. Initially I planned to have the blending matching the one on the panel. With pink on top and blue in the bottom. But since it’s me and I tend to not pay attention – I did it in reversed order. Which I think I like more than my original idea haha.
To finish off the card I added several clear droplets.
FAUX COVER DIE BACKGROUND
The set also has many smaller dies to make small floral elements. I decided to make a faux cover plate background using them.
So I made a panel out of a white cardstock and arranged dies in the bottom part of it. Then I took a piece of Press’n Seal about a width of the panel and pressed it onto the dies and the panel. Then I ran it through my die-cutting machine.
After that I picked up the Press’n Seal with all dies still stuck to it, rotated the panel so the top part became the bottom one, placed the PNS piece onto it and ran the panel with dies on it through die-cutting machine again. Using the Press’n Seal made die-cutting of all those small dies out of a panel a very quick task.
I made a white panel and blended Broken China and Salty Ocean Distress Inks onto it, splattered it with clear water and blotted it.
Initially I wanted to have the panel white but it didn’t work with the sentiment (which I will talk about below). So I blended the same inks onto it. For the card base I used Ranger Ink Blending Tool and for the panel I blended the same inks with a blending brush. You can see the difference in the result.
Then I popped the panel onto the card.
I cut a sentiment out of a white cardstock and a white cardstock blended with Broken China Distress Ink, cut each die-cut in two parts, stacked each pair with a slight offset and adhered onto the card.
Lastly I adhered some white die-cuts (of this panel) onto the card. To add some interest. I’m not sure though that I like this last step.. Maybe I should’ve leave the card with these additional touches..
So here you have two cards made with this month Large Kit. Butterflies are always fun. I also plan to use this set later to make some additions to my Spring home decor.
