Monochromatic Ultraviolet with Altenew Lacy Scrolls and Peony Scrolls. Card by @craftwalks

Hi friends,

How is the new year goes so far? Did you start post-holiday diet or workout routine? Or maybe you decided to work on a new habit? In any case I wish you luck in whatever you decided to start :)

I myself stopped believing in a “new start” several years ago. Maybe I matured to realized it (or simple got too old for this haha). I do believe in a new start, but not on January 1st. You can have a new start any day. I even was thinking of trying to start a new habit maybe like December 28th-ish. But kinda missed the date. Well, maybe the next year.

To be honest I think January 1st is the worst day for a new start. You wake up tired after New Year night in the middle of the day, your fridge is still full of holiday dinner leftovers and what? You jump off your bed and start workout, instead of relaxing in front of TV in cozy socks with a cup of hot chocolate? And make yourself an acai bowl while you fridge is full of tasty and incredibly unhealthy goods? I think it’s better to start fresh maybe January 3rd.. Or 10th ;))))

Anyways, I think I went to far in discouraging of those who believes in January 1st and if so – I’m very sorry about it.

Speaking of a new year. One thing that differs one year from another, except at least numbers, is Pantone color of the year. And this year it’s striking Ultraviolet! I really love this color and really love it was chosen as a color of the year. And today I want to share a monochromatic card made in this color.

I think the closest to Ultraviolet are Altenew Midnight Violet and Deep Iris Dye Inks and I used Midnight Violet to create the card.

I started by stamping and die-cutting several elements using Lacy Scrolls Stamp ans Die Sets out of Solar White Cardstock. Next I made an A2 card base out of the same cardstock and blended Midnight Violet Dye Ink onto the bottom part of it. I was using a tape to mask off the area of the card base above the inked one.

Next I stamped a floral design using stamps from Peony Scrolls Stamp Set stamped with Midnight Violet Dye Ink. I used masking for several elements, to prevent elements overlapping.

I cut a stripe of the same Solar White Cardstock and colored it in violet by blending Midnight Violet Dye Ink to cover the stripe completely. This time I blended ink a bit more intensive, to have it a bit darker than the card base bottom. Then I applied a bit of adhesive onto the back side of the stripe and wrapped silver thread around.

I adhered Lacy Scrolls elements onto the bottom part of the card. Followed by foam mounting the stripe using black foam squares, positioning it in between the inked and white parts of the card base.

To finish off the card I die-cut a sentiment out of Solar White Cardstock using a die from Envelope Liner Die Set and adhered it onto the stripe.

These two stamp sets have similar floral elements and as you can see can be easily combined together. They’re not identical but look very alike, which allowed to create this vision of positive and negative stamping. This design will also work for any other stamp set that has both outline and solid parts of the same image.

This card makes an amazing pop ! What a great way to demonstrate ultraviolet, the flowers are really pretty & look very striking either way, great split with the bright strip.
Quick tale for you, I used to have my hair dyed a very bright red, loved it as it shone & looked so healthy. Then it was related colour of the year after me having it for a while & lots of people took to red. So I changed mine to a beautiful shade of purple, can you guess roughly what shade ? Guess I’m back off to the hairdressers lol
