Hello and welcome to Altenew Stencil Release Blog Hop!
You probably came from Terhi Koskinen blog. If not – you may consider starting from the beginning at Altenew blog and see what other members of Altenew design team and guest designers sharing. And as usual there are many chances to win a prize.
I’m sharing three cards today made using new products.
GRAFFITI SCRIBBLE
I used new Graffiti Scribble stencil. This stencil calls for multi color use, doesn’t it? Initially I wanted to just color the stencil openings using different colors. But then I decided to go a bit another way, faster and more interesting.
First I was placed the stencil onto a white panel so it only covered it partially and angled and inked using Dusk ink. I then moved it to another position next to the inked area inked through it using Ruby Red ink. Lastly I inked with Warm Sunshine ink through the same stencil placed right next to the already inked area. I adhered the panel onto a white card base.
The background I got happened to be quite busy so I didn’t feel like adding something else, except of a sentiment.
For the sentiment I white embossed one from You Are stamp set onto a black stripe and foam mounted it in the bottom right part of the background.
To finish I added several Morning Dew Nuvo Crystal Drops.
This product (crystal drops) are so easy to use. You can easily get ideal drops with no effort.
LAYERED KALEIDOSCOPE
For this card I used new Layered Kaleidoscope A stencil. As all layered stencils there is also another one that can be layered on top of it to get layered result. I’ll be sharing a card using both of them later this week. But for the card I’m sharing today I only used A stencil. In the middle of it there is a figure that reminded me the Sun made in African pattern. So I decided to make an African-like card using this stencil.
First I placed the stencil onto the left top part of a white panel, masked all openings outside “the Sun” using pieces of tape and inked through it with Warm Sunshine ink. Then I placed it in the bottom part of the panel and inked using Moss ink.
I white embossed a giraffe from Geometric Menagerie Stamp Set and color it with Distress Markers. Stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set using Dark Chocolate ink, adhered the panel onto a yellow card base, foam mounted the giraffe and added several sequins to finish off the card.
I should admit that African/tribe/safari theme is not something that I ever thought I’d do. But surprisingly enough I really like how this card came together. It reminds me Broadway Lion King … ingonyama nengw’ enamabala, ingonyama nengw’ enamabala :))
TREE RING
For my last card I used amazing Tree Ring Stencil. First I dry embossed it into a Pale Gray Cardstock panel. Then I die-cut word DAD out of the panel using Bold Alphabet Dies.
I placed the stencil into its embossed grooves and inked over with Industrial Diamond Ink. I then added some black droplets onto the panel and adhered it onto a Dark Gray Cardstock card base.
Lastly I created chipboard-like dimensional letter placing previously die-cut ones from the panel on top and adhered then into their negative space in the panel.
Unfortunately it’s a bit hard to see dry embossing on the letters, but it’s there. And it there and looks pretty cool. I really love this stencil, think it’s my favorite from the whole release.
At the end I want to tell you a story of how I did these black dots. Initially I planned to add just several black enamel dots. And first I was lazy to get out my enamel dots box. Second – I wanted to make them using a liquid dots product, as I got addicted to them recently. The only black liquid dots product I have is Ranger Enamel Accents. Which happened to be a bit dried out, since were bought like 6 years ago. I still was able to squeeze product out of a bottle, but it wasn’t liquid enough to create a perfect circle dots. When there is a new product on a market that seems to be interesting and promising – I tend to buy it without thinking how often will I use it if will ever. I’m sure many of you can relate to this 🙂 But some products (especially liquid one) have shelf life. So it won’t be there for you forever. I only recently started taking this into consideration when want to buy let’s say the whole 96 colors set of a liquid product just in case.
It was a bit frustrating that my enamel accents dried out. But then I decided to try one thing. I squeezed a bit of black accent onto my craft sheet and added a bit of water. Resulting with black paint kind of thing. Which was pretty thick and a bit dimensional. So I ended up with just adding droplets of this “paint” using a small brush. Which can be done using anything else of course. Paint, stray, ink. Using diluted enamel accents wasn’t an essential to finish this card, but I’m glad that I found the way to give another life to an almost dead product and decided to share this story 🙂

Great looking cards. I too have had buyer’s remorse when I impulsively buy something without a purpose in mind and then go to use it some time later and find that it is all dried up. I am sure that my black accent enamel is at least 6 years old and still flows perfectly for me, so you never know.
Mitzi
I like the clever way you used part of a stencil on the giraffe card.

Great cards. I can see what you mean about the tribal design – funny though until you said I didn’t see it in the stencil but totally could in your design. Oh yeah I’m so totally guilty of buying products I hardly ever (or in some cases never use – still in mint condition). I see something in a demonstration and think that is awesome – then totally forget how to use the product and it sits idly on the shelf.
Preeti D.
