Studio Katia • Partial and Double Embossing In Gold

Using Partial and Double Gold Embossing techniques you can create different look using the same stamp. Featuring Studio Katia Mandala Flower.

Hello!

I’m currently in Columbus, Ohio. Attending Simon Says Stamp CREATE event.  I’ll be back on Monday maybe with little story about how it went. But don’t quote me on this, I took my cameras and planned to film the event. But the schedule seems to be busy and I’m not sure how this will turn out. Maybe I’ll do Instagram stories at least. If you’re interested – here is my Instagram.

I liked Studio Katia Mandala Flower stamp when first saw it. But at first I didn’t see many different ways it can be used. Now I feel like it never leaves my “working basket” (it’s a paper tray basket I store stamps and dies that are currently in use).

Today I want to share one more fun way this stamp can be used.

Using Partial and Double Gold Embossing techniques you can create different look using the same stamp. Featuring Studio Katia Mandala Flower.

To start off I created a scratchy background by first inking a panel of Neenah Solar White with Broken China Distress ink and then stamping Grunge background using Ranger Archival Manganese ink.

Any similar background stamp (or even smaller stamps stamped all over the background) can be used to achieve the similar look. If you don’t have any stamps like this you can just ink the background using inks of two shades.

Then I let my background dry and started gold embossing.

First I embossed mandalas several times. For them I used double embossing, Hero Arts gold powder first and Ranger Gold Tinsel was embossed at top (it has glitter particles and adds some dimension and shine). As usual I used my anti-static powder tool before embossing to eliminate static that can cause embossing powder to stick where I don’t want it to be.

I always use this tool to get cleaner embossing. But sometimes still could get powder stuck in inappropriate spots. In such cases I remove excess using small brush.

For this card I didn’t care about removing any excess. As it just added to the scratchy background.

After I embossed mandalas I added center parts of them in between. I was simply stamping with Versamark ink, pouring powder and removing everything beyond center element with brush. After that I was going ahead and heat set it. For these smaller elements I only used plain gold powder.

Then I started struggling with a sentiment. I didn’t want to introduce any other colors to my card. Besides any other color seemed not working here (I tried white and black). I could just gold emboss a sentiment onto the panel but I wanted something more interesting.

And then I remembered about vellum. So I just gold emboss the sentiment from Duo Talk set onto a vellum stripe.  So when I doubt – use vellum 😉

Lastly I added several gold sequins for additional shine 😉

I really like how this card turned out. This mandala embossed in gold looks amazing. Plus – I really like such grungy backgrounds 😉
Have a wonderful day!
