Lesia Zgharda • Faux Watercolor With Distresses

Faux Watercolor With Distress Inks. Cards by @craftwalks

Hello my crafty friends.

I already mentioned before that tropics are not my theme.  I’m a winter kind of girl. But now I started thinking that I didn’t like tropics before simply because I didn’t have the right tropical leaves stamps. I fall in love with Lesia Zgharda tropical leaves and coming back to them again ;)

Today I want to share two quick and simple cards using faux watercolor with Distress inks. This technique is an oldie but goodie. With so many techniques out there, and so many being introduced every day sometimes we forgot about ones that have been existing for years.

For my first card I stamped a leaves cluster in the middle of watercolor panel (monstera here and here, palm – here, here and here).

I was applying a couple of distress inks onto a stamp (used combinations of Pine Needles, Evergreen Bough and Broken China) and then spritzing it with water before stamping. It gave me that look as if I was watercoloring them myself.

I didn’t do any masking this time. In this technique overlapping is not very critical. Which makes it even faster and simpler.

Thanks word was die cut out of failed watercolor background. I like making watercolor backgrounds, but often fail. I never discard those. As they may not work for a background, but often are great for small die-cuts.

The die cut was adhered in the middle of leaves cluster, kind of hiding between them. It’s like those pictures, where you don’t see all details from the very first sight.

Finally I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base.

For my next card I made kind of wall gallery. I enjoy reading decor magazines. It’s one of my favorite bathroom reading, if you know what I mean (sorry for TMI ;)). And I often inspired or get ideas for my cards from such magazines. Apparently framed tropical prints nowadays are very popular. So I replicated that look.

I simply stamped leaves onto rectangular pieces of watercolor paper, foam mounted them onto rectangles of bigger size (used the same failed watercolor background). From the same failed background I die cut hello and made a DIY chipboard out of it.

Lastly I adhered all elements onto a white card base.

These cards were very quick to make. If I decided to watercolor them – Lord know it’d take me forever. With amazing qualities of Distress inks and some water we can get almost the same result :)
