Gloomy Fall Card

This post is also available in: Russian

Hi All!

I feel like it’s been forever since I blogged the last. Life just got crazy. Nothing bad or dramatic, I just was busy here and there. And didn’t have chance to craft. But I compensated out-of-craft-desk time shopping new stamps and dies. I splurged a bit (ok, not a bit :)), but now I’m totally set for holiday cardmaking :) Although that will come a bit later. Today I want to show a gloomy fall card I made.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love everything about it. The start of holiday seasons, the weather, the spirit. And it’s extremely beautiful! It’s the most colorful time of the year. And even when it’s gloomy and rainy it’s still amazing and I love it so much. I’m desperately waiting for fall. And accordingly to the current weather forecasts I will wait for some time. So far summer doesn’t seem to be leaving and all I have now is making fall cards. Gloomy Fall Card. Embossing resist and simple masking and inking with @heroarts Color Layering Fall Tree set. Card by @s_shayevichThe main role in this card plays Hero Arts Color Layering Fall Tree set. One of my favorite. It’s so forgiving and the result is amazing. The fall tree you can create with this set is so realistic and arty and perfect.

I made this card using layered embossing resist technique (I made a video for it several months ago).

First on a Neenah Solar White panel I stamped trees foliage using bunch of die inks of fall colors. After stamping each layer I was applying Hero Arts ultra fine clear embossing powder right away and melted it. Die inks dry very quickly to touch, but they stay wet in core of cardstock for limited time. And this time is enough for embossing powder to stick to it. I stamped several foliage layers for each tree, covering each layer with clear embossing. Also I added several “fallen leaves” on the bottom part of the panel and “on the hill”. I made clear embossing for two reasons. First I needed it to create resist effect for following inking. And Also clear embossed leaves looks like wet after rain, it gives them more realistic look.

After stamping/embossing foliage I inked the whole panel with Weathered Wood Distress ink using an ink applicator. Next I cut a hill out of masking paper using a snow drift die, sticked the top part of “hill” to my panel and inked it using the same Distress Ink, applying it more heavily. Distress inks are dye, so they’re translucent. Therefore applying a layer over layer you can build the inking intensity you need.

While I still had the mask sticked to the panel, I stamped Branches background using SSS Slate ink.
Gloomy Fall Card. Embossing resist and simple masking and inking with @heroarts Color Layering Fall Tree set. Card by @s_shayevichNext I stamped trees trunks using SSS Slate ink. For the trees on the hill I switched to the bottom part of the hill mask, to stamp them exactly growing on the hill.

To add my scene more rainy and gloomy look – I strayed the panel with water using Distress Sprayer. Distress ink reacted with water giving me that interesting and uneven texture.

Finally I stamped a sentiment from the same stamps set with SSS Slate ink, covered it with clear ink and heat set it. This time I didn’t need embossing for resisting, I just wanted the sentiment to pop up a bit and to match the texture of embossed leaves.

To finish off my card I adhered the panel to white card base and sprayed it a bit using Distress Tarnished Brass Mica Spray. It’s probably hard to catch it on photo, but it added some gold to the trees. And some more gloominess to the whole scene.

I want to enter this card in this month A Blog Named Hero Challenge – Pop of Color.

Love the card…it is not gloomy at all, to me…but then Fall is my favorite time of the year, also! I live on the west coast now but was an East Coast girl and still miss the beautiful Fall colors!

      Thank you a lot!
I should say, that to me that gloominess that fall has is much better then summer sunshine. I’m always in a great mood in such weather :)
