Spellbinders | April Small Die Of The Month

Hi friends,

This month the Spellbinders Small Die Of The Month Kit Layered Colorful Blooms is all about … well layered blooms 🙂 It has a bunch of dies to make three different flowers, a bud and three leave designs. Along with a simple sentiment.

I have two cards to share with you today featuring this set. Both were made in the same technique but different design. Without me planning they both turned out looking like a oil painting 🙂

BLUE FLOWERS

First I was creating a “color” paper for all elements. I was blending Distress Inks onto a watercolor paper, I used the same ink for one type of an element and was achieving different shades by blending less or more ink onto a paper.

As far as the watercolor paper goes I used the Tim Holtz one. It’s a pure white paper that has two sides – rough and smooth. I was using a rough side as was going for a more textured look.

So for flowers I used the Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink. I blended it onto a watercolor paper in a gradient manner, making 4 shades of the same color from lighter to darker. Then I added water splatters using my beloved Distress Sprayer. Water moved the ink creating “signature distress ink look”. I blog the water its reaction with the ink. Then I also added a little bit of splatters of the same ink using a brush. And onto the darkest ink shading I added a black ink splatters as well.

Next I die-cut all elements of the flowers and glue them one on top of another assembling the flowers.

The leaves were made in the same manner, I used the Peel Paint Distress Ink for them.

For the background I used a Canson Montval paper as it has less texture and I wanted the background to be less textured. I used the Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to make it. First I blended the ink onto the paper. Then added water, blotted it, added the same ink splatters.

I also added some shimmer splatters to it, to make it more interesting.  I used Perfect Pearl Perfect Pearls mixed with water as well as Antique Bronze Mica Spray.

I foam mounted the panel onto a rustic white card base, adhered all the elements onto it. Added a sentiment die-cut out of a watercolor paper using a die from the set.

Lastly I added several Gold Confetti.

SUNFLOWERS

If you still don’t know this fact about me – I’m a huge sunflower lover. In Ukraine (where I came from) sunflowers are like a signature flowers of the country. I won’t get into all details, will just say that I had to make sunflowers as well.

The card is made in the same technique. For flowers here I was using the Mustard Seed and Black Soot Distress Inks.

For the background the Salty Ocean was used. I only splayed it with water and added a little bit r perfect pearls shimmer.

The part of the sentiment I made partially dimensional to adhere it leveled onto the card. I did this by die-cutting three more of hellos, cutting off h and adhering them to the back of the sentiment.

Lastly I added several Crystal Clear Confetti.
