Hi, friends!
Do you still making winter cards? I often feel weird this time of year. On one hand it’s still winter (not even the half of it) and I still want to continue playing with winter theme.. On the other hand – all people seems to switched completely into a Spring mode already. Or at least towards Valentine Day. Actually speaking of Valentine Cards… every year I feel odd when around December 10, when you’re all in Christmas prep mode, all you feed at social media is bursting with Valentines.
I myself already had one of Valentines as a part of one of the Altenew releases the last year and soon you will see more of those from me soon. But I think that there is place for winter still. So today I want to share a winter thank you card with you. Which features a fun and easy messy background technique.
I started by making the watercolor wash background. First, I wet a watercolor panel with clear water. Then I scribbled Dusk and Sea Breeze watercolor brush markers from the Spring Garden Set onto the back side of a fold top sandwich bag. You can use some other plastic product of similar properties of course. I sprayed some water onto the bag and placed it onto the panel, the back side down – the side where I had my markers’ scribbles.
Then I rubbed the bag with my fingers, spreading pigment around. I dried the panel a bit with my heat gun and placed the bag with leftover pigment onto the panel again, adding the second layer of watercolor messiness.
Next, I foam mounted the watercolor onto a white card base.
I also made a similar background on another piece of watercolor paper. I let this piece dry completely and die-cut a couple of snowflakes from the Layered Snowflakes Die Set. I also die-cut one snowflake out of the same watercolor paper.
After that, all the snowflakes were adhered onto the card.
To finish it off, I foam mounted a sentiment from the Magnolias For Her Stamp Set stamped with the Dusk Crisp Dye Ink and added several clear droplets.
Finally, I felt that this card needed something more and added some Pure White Ink Spray splatters onto it.
Below you can find the video where you can see how this card was made. You can watch it here or in HD on my YouTube channel:
Have a wonderful day!

Love your winter themed card. It is beautiful. Hard to imagine a bit of color smooshed on with a sandwich bag could look so pretty, but it does. I had to start mskung Valentines as
I ( along with my sister-in-law make cards for a rehab center) , but your pretty card makes me want to pull out a new snowflake set and make a few winter cards. Enjoy your videos!
