ADDING SHADING WITH GRAY MARKERS AND COLOR SPOTLIGHT TECHNIQUE

For my card today I used all (almost) markers from the new set. The idea was to color one big image in different shades for the background and sentiment (which I die cut out of the mentioned background).

But I wasn’t looking forward to coloring them separately trying to match the shading on the background and sentiment pieces. So I used the technique that is very handy in situations like this. Which is creating shades with gray markers and then adding color needed. This way all shading is already there by the tone you add color and there is no need to shade with whatever color you’re adding.

So first I stamped the floral image from the Sketchy Floral Stamp Set onto a white panel using the Pure Graphite Dye Ink.

Then it was colored using two lightest gray markers from the new Artist Markers Set E.

I die-cut a word out of the panel using dies from the Bold Alphabet Die Set.

And then I colored the panel and letter die-cuts. Using green marker for the panel and orange for the letters.

And by coloring I mean just filing the area with a marker. I didn’t do any shading on this point as it was already out down with gray markers.

I adhered the panel onto a white card base, made a sentiment dimensional (by die-cutting with the same die out of an orange cardstock and stacking the die-cuts) and inserted it into its negative space in the panel.

Lastly I added several Snow Crystals.

I think this is what I’m most excited about for this release: the grey set. I love a drop shadow, but it can take so long with pencils, which is what I usually use, so I think this might be my answer. Thanks for sharing this lovely card and technique with us; the alternating of the green and orange is really striking.
