Lots of butterflies | Spellbinders

I hope so far 2019 is going great for you.

I’m an Orthodox Christian and our holidays happen according to Julian calendar. Orthodox Christmas is January 7th. Which doesn’t mean that I don’t celebrate the one in December. It means that I have two Christmases 🙂 The more the merrier as they say 🙂

I only started having two Christmases (and two Easters too) after moving to US. Back when I was living in Ukraine of course there were only Julian calendar holidays for me. But now when I live here both dates are holidays for me.

On top of that New Year is a big thing for us (immigrants from ex-USSR countries). Back in USSR religion was banned. And to make people not celebrate Christmas New Year got significant promotion instead. It kind of replaced Christmas. Even the tree was called  (and is still called there) as “New Year Tree”. But no matter what was the main idea behind this replacing from the government point of view – it was the only not political holiday back then. Hence – the most beloved one by people.

So basically Christmas/New Year season lasts from December 1st till January 19th (Orthodox Epiphany) in our house. You may guess that I’m pretty exhausted already lol.

I love winter holidays and always looking forward to them (like starting late April). But with them being so long for us I’m not depressed when they’re over haha.

Well, this was kind of a long intro into the today’s post. Which is all about NOT winter and holidays. Today I’m sharing projects featuring a couple of Spellbinders Stamp Sets.

For the card I used the Layered Butterflies Stamp Set. This set has several stamps to make layered butterflies. Which can be mix and match to get different look.

As far as the color combo goes I opted for an always winning one of gray, yellow and blue. I stamped the butterflies using these colors and cut them with my scissors.

Then I made a panel out of dark gray cardstock and added some black spray splatters onto it.  After that I white embossed a sentiment in the bottom third of it.

Adhered the butterflies cluster in the top third and added several blue and yellow sequins to finish off the card.

And I also made two simple tags using a stamp from the For You Stamp Set. This wreath stamp is a perfect size to use on a tag. So I grabbed two tag die cuts I had on hand and stamped the wreath using Island Blue and Butter Bar inks.

Next I blended some distress inks of the matching colors onto the bottom parts of the tags. I also colored white ribbon in matching colors using the same inks and tied them to the tags.
