I happened to make both cards in green. Which is not very usual for me. Usually I tend to make very different cards for a release color scheme and style wise (and then struggle when take a group photo lol).

Altenew November Stencils Release. Card by Svitlana Shayevich

FLORAL MANDALA

My ultimately favorite technique when it comes to stencils is using an embossing paste. It’s a wonderful and very versatile product. You can use it as is or can color using any dye medium (ink spray, refill, ink pad to name a few).

Altenew Floral Mandala, colored with spray embossing paste. Card by Svitlana Shayevich

I started making my first card by blending the Emerald Dye Ink onto a white panel. After that I added some splatters on the Lagoon Ink Spray onto it.

I taped down the panel and then taped down the Floral Mandala Stencil on top of it. Next I colored some embossing paste using the same Lagoon Ink Spray. I just scooped some paste onto my craft mat, added some spray and mixed them together until I got a solid color. The same principle when you add a food coloring to a cake icing.

The embossing paste dries pretty quickly on air and it’s recommended to work relatively fast. So it’s better to have everything ready before you take out paste from a jar to color it. Like I secured the stencils onto the panel preliminary.

When you color the embossing paste – try to estimate how much you would need to a project. As if you tun out of the colored paste – it can be difficult to create another batch of exactly the same color… With this being said – the importance of the “exact color” is questionable. If you don’t suffer from OCD it may not be an issue for you.

Lastly, keep in mind that an ink spray is a liquid medium, you just need several droplets to color the paste. If you add too much spray you may end up with the colored paste of melted ice-cream consistency.

After the paste dried up I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base.

Next I die-cit letters from the sentiment out of White Woodgrain Paper using the Caps Bold Alphabet Die Set. I swiped the Jet Black Dye Ink Pad onto the letters to color them in black. Then I swiped the Embossing ink on top, covered with Rose Gold Embossing Powder and heat set them. Resulting with these cool gold woodgrain letters.

Which I popped onto the card placing some gold thread underneath.

I finished off the card by adding several Gold Crystals.

FEATHERED LEAVES

For my next card I used the new Feathered Leaves Stencil. Unfortunately It’s almost impossible to see the stencil design on my card as I made the background with a twist.

Altenew Feathered Leaves Stencil. Card by Svitlana Shayevich

First I blended the Shadow Creek Dye Ink  through the stencil onto a white panel. Next I rotated it a bit and blended the Grass Field Dye Ink through it. Lastly I rotated the stencil to the opposite direction and blended Firefly Dye Ink thought it. Getting this deep multi layered leafy background.

After that I popped the panel onto a white card base.

I made a sentiment by die-cutting a word hugs out of a Gold Mirror Cardstock once and several times out of a green cardstock using a die from the Script Word Die Set. I adhered all die-cuts together to make a dimensional sentiment.

Which I adhered onto a vellum panel, which in turn was adhered onto the card.

Several Gold Crystals finished off the card.

Beautiful cards! Thank you so much you are an inspiration. I am new to arts and crafts. My best friend actually got me painting and coloring. I am super excited to learn what else is out there. By the way, Merry Christmas and I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday!!

Thank you for the tips on mixing the inks with the embossing paste (Reminds me of baking and making buttercream…)! The greens paired with the gold look wonderful

You always come up with the coolest looking cards Svitlana! Both backgrounds are gorgeous and the HI and hugs pop right off the cards, definite awesomeness lol. Thanks as always for the great inspiration and for sharing both cards.
