Hi friends,
It’s been not a lot of me here recently. With some family issues and added activity also I’ve been working on a couple of urgent and time consuming craft projects which took up all my time. Hopefully will be less busy within a month or so and will be able to create more 😉
I was lucky to play with Spellbinders July Large Die Of The Month which this month is very interesting alphabet set. For each letter you get two dies – a kind of marquee letter and it’s shadow.
I made four different (very different) cards using this set and different Spellbinders Specialty Paper (which not always was a paper actually).
GOLD AND BLACK
When I first saw the set my first thought was – gold and black! And I’m sure that’s how it should be envisioned first by any lol
The card by itself is very easy. I die cut letters out of black cardstock and their “shadows” out of Metallic Gold Poster Board from Spellbinders Platinum Pack 3 and adhered corresponding elements together to form marquee letters. Which I adhered onto a black panel forming the sentiment.
I cut a bit bigger panel out of Metallic Gold Poster Board and adhered it onto a black card base, followed by adhering the black panel with letters onto it. This way I got this kind of gold frame.
And that’s basically finished off my card. I really like its bold and sort of typography look.
CORK AND CANVAS
Almost no paper was harmed in the making of this card. I was playing with Spellbinders Platinum Pack 5 Cork Corrugated Cardboard Balsa Wood and Spellbinders Platinum Pack 1 Burlap Canvas Sheets.
The front panel is made out of white burlap sheet. And the letters I cut out of cork. These cork sheets are sticky back so you don’t need to worry much about adhering their die-cuts. But since my panel was a burlap I hand stitched them to it. Which actually I intended to do from the very beginning as it was the main idea of the card – stitched to a fabric letters. Whose holes in them really called for it.
I also added several wooden buttons (and by added I mean – stitched them to the panel).
Next I adhered the burlap panel to a thick cardstock and foam mounted it onto a kraft card base.
PAINTED CORK
For the next card I also played with cork from Spellbinders Platinum Pack 5 Cork Corrugated Cardboard Balsa Wood. I painted small areas of a cork sheet with Distress Paints (any acrylic paint will work) and then die-cut letters for a word FRIEND out of it.
I also die-cut letter shadows out of vellum and adhered cork letters on top.
Here comes a fun part. My card actually says not “FRIEND”, but “HELLO FRIEND”. I made HELLO dry embossed into a gray panel. And to make it more interesting I didn’t embossed just hello word, but took letters for this word and kind of scattered them along the whole panel.
There were a “study” (according to Facebook) that as soon as the first and last letter of a word are on their place it doesn’t matter which order are other letters – your brain will still read the word.
Here you can better see the dry embossing.
Lastly I adhered the panel onto a white card base, adhered FRIEND word in the bottom part and finished off the card by adding several Snow Crystals.
SILVER AND ALCOHOL INKS
My last card is very similar to the previous one. The same idea – the card says “HAPPY BDAY”, although HAPPY is dry embossed into the panel.
The BDAY I die-cut out of a Metallic Silver Sheet from Spellbinders Platinum Pack 3. And colored letters with alcohol inks.
I also added some “paint splatters” as accent elements using liquid droplets products. I simply was squeezing some product from a bottle and then dragged with a pin to different directions to form a blog.
And to be honest this wasn’t planned at all. It happened as I screwed up one of the liquid droplet making it oval not round. So I rescued the card making blobs haha
So here you have four ways this card kit can be used. I myself really love alphabet sets, and this one is very interesting and kind of unique.
Have a wonderful day!

Svitlana, I love that you have had a play with different ways of using this new Spellbinders Large Die of the month. The alphabet letters are a good size on a card base but to have a shadow or layered background too is a real asset too. Thank you for sharing these with us crafters Svitlana. :O)
