Simon Says Stamp | Hello There

New Simon Says Stamp release Sending Sunshine is here and as usual it’s awesome!

I was lucky to play with very fun set – Hello There. I just can’t with these hilarious animals in this set. As we all do (I assume) I do like cute and adorable style of drawing furry friends. But even more I love when they’re hysterical. I made two fun cards using this set.

KOALA

Koalas crack me up in general and this particular one is no exception. This set has a stamp with two-can string telephone and a touching sentiment “can’t wait to hear from you”. The idea of my card is a cute koala that misses talking with its friend.

When it came to choosing a background scene for the koala my first and only thought was an eucalyptus forest. I believe eucalyptus is the only thing they eat, it’s quite low in nutrition and they eat a lot of it.  So I “gave” my little koala a lot of leaves with Simon Says Stamp Leaves Background Stamp. I love this background stamp very much. I’m a fan of background stamps in general, but they’re costly and take up more storage space. But as with any other type of products there are always several must have staples. With background stamps it’s usually something more settled and universal, like lines, dots, woodgrain. But I personally found reaching this particular background stamp quite often and even though it looks less universal it became a staple for me too.

Anyways, I started making my card by trimming a panel out of Apple Crush cardstock. Then I clear embossed the mentioned background using Clear Matte Embossing Powder (another my staple). Next I blended some Mowed Lawn Distress Ink onto the panel (mostly along the edges) and sprinkled it with water using my Distress Sprayer, just to add a little bit of texture.

After that I die-cut the panel using Simon Says Stamp Birch Circle Die and foam mounted it onto a white card base.

I stamped the koala with two-can telephone in its hands using COPIC-friendly Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink, colored them with my COPICs and fussy cut with my scissors. I also white embossed the sentiment onto a black cardstock stripe.

Next I popped the koala ​in the circle window and foam mounted the sentiment below. To finish off the card I added several Onyx Crystals.

HELLO THERE

As much as I love this cute koala I couldn’t pass another cute critters from this set. And made another simple and quick card using them.

If you follow me on Instagram you probably already read the following “story” and can skip the following passage.

Since English isn’t my native language some words or phrases can sound funny for me (which may be not funny at all for native speakers). One of such phrases is “hello there”. At the very beginning I didn’t even understand it. I wasn’t getting why “there” was added to hello and what did it mean. Being a nerd on one side and not understanding fully how the language was built on the other at that time I tended to directly translate everything and this phrase directly translated didn’t make any sense (the same as – “over there”, “here you go” – those were hard to understand for me too). .

Now I’ve learned English a little bit more and understand the meaning, but for some reason is sounds funny for me. I imagine a funny animal peeking from out a frame. That’s what I actually did on this card. For me this simple scene has much more meaning that can look.

First I stamped the critters onto a watercolor paper and colored using Arteza watercolor pens. Next I hand cut them using scissors. I die-cut a panel out of Solar White cardstock using Simon Says Stamp Wonky Rectangles Die Set, adhered the critters behind it and popped the panel onto a Peanut Fudge card base.

Lastly I added a sentiment, white embossed onto a Cotton Candy stripe and several brown and pink enamel dots.
