Studio Katia | March 2018 Release Blog Hop

For my card today I used new very beautiful Japanese Peony Stamp Set. If you followed along the yesterday blog hop you may notice that this flower is very popular in this release 😉

I decided to color it with gouache paint. I like working with this media, but for some reason don’t do it very often lol. But not in this case, when I got so much fun coloring this amazing flower. I like that gouache paint is opaque and gives such kind of velvety matt finish.

After coloring the peony I die-cut it using matching dies.

I then cut a panel out of Solar White Cardstock and inked it with blue ink using direct-to-paper technique (in other words – I simply rubbed the panel with an ink pad until it was completely colored in blue).

Next I dry embossed a frame onto the panel using a die from Dotted Patterns Set 2. I added some black splatters and stamped a sentiment in the right bottom corner. Followed by foam mounting it onto a white card base.

I foam mounted the flower onto the card and lastly added several Onyx Crystals.

I feel like these crystals (and also Snow White ones) are the only embellishments I use recently 😉 I really love how they look on a card, adding small interesting touches.

I’m very glad I choose gouache for this flower. Why don’t I use it more often? Such an amazing media! And forgiving! It’s opaque, so you can cover one layer with another. But also can be reactivated with water after it dries. Which is handy if you want to remove some color. Like in my case the leaves for the flower initially were brown. And I didn’t like how they looked against this background. Sp I removed brown with water and repainted them with gray. Can you tell brown was there? I’m holding the card in my hands and cannot. It’s very hard to do the same fix with watercolor, pencils or markers.
