Hi friends,
Today I want to share three cards made using Spellbinders January Large Die of the Month. Large Die of the Month is one of Spellbinders Monthly Membership Clubs and are designed for die cutting aficionados, handmade card makers, crafty DIY’ers, and beginners alike. Each month members receive expertly designed dies or kits to create projects, cards and more.
For the value (January kit includes 13 dies) the price tag is very nice. I made three cards using just 4 dies, I see many other designs which can be made using the rest.
SEE THOUGHT HEART
The kit has two large heart dies which can be great for layouts or other bigger projects. Which I rare make, because mostly I make cards. And I wanted to show you how you can make a see through cad using these big dies.
I stated by die-cutting the large lattice heart die out of white card base. I unfolded the base and placed the die onto it aligning its center along the score line. Next I die-cut a heart outline out of red cad base. I trimmed both cad bases so the white is shorter than red and red is narrower than white followed by adhering them together, white inside, red outside.
I took a red heart die-cut which I cut out of the red card base and fir-cut the lattice design out of it. Followed by adhering it inside of the card shifting a bit along the corresponding white die-cut design.
Resulting with a see thorough card with a big elegant heart inside. Lastly I stamped a sentiment in the bottom of the card using red ink.
Side note. Usually I use a thicker cardstock for my card bases. 100-110 lb. In this case I took lighter cardstock (80 lb) to create both cad bases. First, adhered together they already created a thicker card base. Plus with such weight chosen it’s easier to fold a card.
DIE-CUT INLAY
The previous card I show is made in so to speak traditional Valentine color scheme. But I personally prefer something less traditional. As red and white often can look cheap and cheesy. I shouldn’t say often. I should rather say – it’s difficult for me personally to work within this scheme. And I prefer something “less Valentine”. The next card is made in such color scheme, with just a pop of red.
Here I implemented die-cut inlay technique with another adorable heart die. First I die-cut it out of red cardstock and adhered onto a gray card base. Inlaying all die-cut pieces in their negative spaces.
Next I die-cut the same heart out of white cardstock and adhered it on top of the red one. I added some white splatters using COPIC Opaque White and adhered a stripe with a sentiment to the card bottom.
Lastly I added several clear droplets.
“STITCHED” HEART
There is another heart in the kit which has die-cut holes all around its edge. Which I used to “stitch” it with natural twine.
Which was very fun and easy to do. I applied a tape adhesive on the heart back to hold the twine in place.
Next I cut a panel out of rustic white cardstock and stamped a sentiment in the bottom part of it. Followed by wrapping some twine around the panel.
Next I foam mounted the heart above the panel wrapping and foam mounted the panel onto a kraft card base.
