Altenew • Stamp Focus: Parrot Paradise

Hi friends!

Today I want to share several cards using new amazing Parrot Paradise Stamp Set from Altenew recent release. I’m not a big fan of summer and hot weather, I never consider tropics as the place for my vacation. With this being said I’m totally in love with this stamp set and had a blast working with it. Because it’s SO good! If you’re a tropics loving person you should love it even more.

I created five cards using this set (told you, I had a blast ;)).

TROPICAL BACKGROUND

For my first card I went a traditional so to speak way of working with tropical theme. By creating a leaves background in traditional color combo – green.

Onto a watercolor panel I stamped the background using outlined images from the set stamped with Limestone Dye Ink (I found this ink works the best for no line coloring).

Next I watercolored all of them using different shades of green. You can use one shade, it will also look great. I just wanted to add some more interest to the background. Or you can simple stamp this background, it will be faster. I used Daniel Smith Watercolor 238 Dot Color Chart.

After I finished the background I foam mounted the panel onto a white card base. The sentiment from the set was white embossed using Pure White Embossing Powder onto a Jet Black Cardstock rectangle and foam mounted onto the panel using black foam squares. Lastly I added several clear droplets.

GOLD MONSTERA

For the second card I also went with traditional color scheme, but with a twist.

I stamped a bunch of leaves onto a Solar White Cardstock using Evergreen, Forest Glades and Frayed Leaf Dye Inks. I alternate pairs of inks used to create leaves of different colors.

Also I gold embossed several monsteras onto a vellum using Antique Gold Embossing Powder and hand cut them. Gold monsteras are very trendy now, I just had to have them on a card 😉

I made an A2 card base out of Solar White Cardstock and adhered the leaves onto it creating greenery cluster. Some of elements I adhered flat, some were foam mounted. I finished my card by adding a white stripe with the sentiment stamped using Evergreen Dye Ink .

The idea of my next card grew from the sentiment. I wanted to play around of words amazingly and leaf in unbe-leaf-able. There are a bunch of leaves in the set, so there were no brainer for the leaf. As far as “amazingly” goes – for me this word often is associated with bright colors, so I went with them.

RAINBOW TROPICS

To start off I created a colorful inked background onto an A2 card base made out of Solar White Cardstock. I used Razzleberry, Honey Drizzle, Pinkalicious, Starlight and Midnight Violet inks applied with an ink applicator. I only applied ink along the bottom and right edges of a card base, since only they would be visible.
Next I while embossed leaves all around these edged using Pure White Embossing Powder, alternating outline and solid images. When two outline images overlapped I removed powder from the overlapped area using small brush, to make them look like one is located behind the other. For solid images I did noting. As they melted together with those that were underneath.

I cut an angled panel out of Solar White Cardstock and muti-color stamped the sentiment onto it. Using the same inks I used to create the background. Then the panel was foam mounted onto the card base and several majestic sequins finished off the card.

INK SMOOSHING

This stamp set has an amazing parrot image of good size and perfect for coloring. Parrots are probably one of the most colorful birds. For my next card I wanted to create a colorful parrot which kind of bursts color all around itself.

Onto a watercolor paper I first stamped a parrot using Limestone Dye Ink and then covered it with masking liquid.

After it dried I created a background using Ruby Red, Warm Sunshine, Lavender Fields, Forest Glades and Dusk Metallic Shimmer Sprays applied in smooshing technique. I used a plastic sandwich bag and was adding a bit of spray liquid onto it, spraying with a bit of water, turning it back to front and putting onto my panel. Then I was kind of massaging the sandwich bag distributing the ink where I wanted it to be. Since sandwich bag is soft and playable it gives sufficient control of where ink will go. And I did the same for all colors I wanted to add to my background.

Usually this technique is used with ink pads pressed onto a sandwich bag. Or watercolor markers, scribbled onto it. Added water creates ink puddles and helps them move better. I was using spray liquid, which is already pretty fluid. So I was adding just a little bit of water, rather to dilute it and make less intense. This is just something to keep in mind. If you add too much water you may end up with too much product that could cover the whole panel.

After my background dried completely I added several spray splatters, to give a bit more interest. Let them dry and removed the masking liquid from the parrot. Which then was colored using Artist Markers and COPICs.

To finish off my card I stamped a sentiment in black using a stamp from Totally Tropical Stamp Set, adhered the panel onto a card base and added several liquid clear droplets.

SPLATTERS

My last card for today is almost the copy of the previous one. I did all the same, but without creating smooshing background.

Simply added some splatters and then colored the parrot. Adhered onto a card base, added a sentiment, clear droplets … you know the drill 😉
