Altenew • May Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello and welcome to Altenew May Release Blog Hop. We are releasing new stamps, dies and embossing powders yay!

I made four cards using product from new release.

MODERN CATS

When it comes to cats – there are never enough cat stamps, don’t you think? Even if you’re not a cat person you probably have tons of friends who are.

I made a very sad card (the one I hope I will never need to send anyone) using stamps from new Modern Cats Stamp Set.

To start off I stamped a cat using Jet Black ink onto a Solar White panel and masked it off covering with liquid frisket. I could easily cut a paper mask, but for some reason decided to go with a liquid one. And here is the reason why.

Before I always tried to stay away from using liquid mask if possible as had unlucky experience using it. Of tearing cardstock underneath while remove it. Very often, almost always, on the point when my project is almost finished and I had invested a lot of time into it. I tried different liquid masks, surprisingly the cheapest and most acceptable was Rubber Cement (you can get it even at a grocery store) was the easiest to remove without damaging of what is underneath . But it’s quite think and doesn’t always work with detailed designs.

Recently I got myself a Pik-Up Rubber Cement Eraser and it’s a bomb! It removes liquid frisket beautifully, no effort, no tearing cardstock, no bursting in tears 🙂  Sometimes this eraser already comes with liquid frisket. When I was buying mine it didn’t and I had know idea such thing existed. All those ruined cards because of this ignorance… Since I got Pik-Up Eraser and found out the beauty of it I tend to use liquid frisket more often. I used several times for recent projects and it was on my desk so I just quickly grabbed it.

Well, it was a long rant of “why I didn’t make a paper mask” lol.

I let frisket dry a bit (like 5 minutes or so) and created the background. I cut a circle using a die from Big World Die Set out of masking paper and adhered it onto the panel. Then I inked the whole panel using Ocean Waves, Desert Night and Dusk inks. Then I stamped branches from Under The Cherry Blossom Tree stamp set and made ground by stamping solid cloud stamp from Rain Or Shine set. 

I removed the circle mask as well as liquid frisket from the cat.

To finish my card off I white emboss the sentiment in the bottom using new Altenew Pure White Crisp Powder.

WATERCOLOR FRAMES – EMBOSSED CIRCLES

Speaking of embossing powders that Altenew has released just now. They’re amazing! I’m a huge fan of embossing and am a pretty critical when it comes to embossing powders. My standards are very high 🙂 New Altenew powders are just amazing! So detailed and crisp!

For my card below I used new Watercolor Frames Stamp Set,  I only used one circle stamp and heat embossed it using Golden Peach, Antique Silver and Antique Gold powders onto a Solar White panel.

On this point we have to have a serious conversation about these powders. I don’t know how it’s for you, but for me not all gold or silver powders are the same. Neither all of them meet my expectations of what I call gold or silver. I think these expectations are different for different people. For some of you silver may mean a warm metallic, or perfect gold is a yellowish one. For me Altenew Antique silver and gold are the perfect shades of these metals. And Golden Peach is just another perfect one – perfect rose gold.

I added a sentiment from Halftone Hearts, which I white embossed onto a black cardstock and die-cut using matching die. Onto a black card base I adhered a stripe of glitter tape from Altenew Card Kit, followed by foam mounting the panel. Lastly I added several gold, silver and rose gold sequins.

WATERCOLOR FRAMES – STAMPED SQUARES

This card is made using the same Watercolor Frames Stamp Set, this time I used two square stamps from it. Which stamped onto a Solar White panel using Puffy Heart, Velvet, Autumn Blaze, Warm Sunshine, Desert Night and Dusk inks.

The sentiment from Painted Greetings was white embossed onto a black cardstock and hand cut with scissors. The panel was then adhered onto a black card base and several sequins from Majestic Sequins Fusion was added to finish it off.

ENCHANTED IRIS

The last but definitely not least card I made using amazing Enchanted Iris Stamp Set.

First I created light gray watercolor wash on a Arches watercolor panel. Next stamped the iris using waterproof ink.

I then colored it using Dusk and Forest Glades Shimmer Sprays. And covered with liquid frisket (told you, I became addicted to this product haha).

Then I took several sentiments from the same stamp set and stamped them all over the panel using Morning Frost ink. So they look like light print behind the iris.
Next I added some spray sprinkles using a small brush.

I removed frisket from the iris and adhered the panel onto a white card base.

The sentiment was white embossed onto a stripe of vellum and adhered to the card.

Lastly I added several sequins from Majestic Sequins Fusion. Which (as often) first of all were required to hide adhesive I used for vellum and cover some boo-boos 😉
